My Thai basil finally is a little big enough for a little pinching. Some of my Cucumber are getting 2-3 inches long. They should be ready in a week. :D

My son mowed, I deadheaded, we all picked and ate our Sugar Ann peas. Yummy! I weeded in the rain this morning and I spread beneficial nematodes around the grub infested areas. The rain was perfect for that. I began contemplating what I will plant and where when fall comes...noticing what will need to be moved, what beds need more punch, what new plants I can squeeze in where...in short, the fun stuff.

weeded, got bit by skeeters, ignored the scary tall grass, got bit by skeeters, put some more dirt/compost on the taters, got threeee big packages of seeeeeds in the mail, took the squirrel barrier screens off the beets & carrots & parsnips because they're getting big enough to fight back, got bit by skeeters, fluffed the compost & used some of it as mulch, planted some coral bell cuttings mom sent, got bit by skeeters, trimmed some of the delphiniums because the wind finished them off & they just might be convinced to bloom again, installed a delightful copper trellis & planted a climbing peace rose, gathered anemone sylvestris seed, said 'hi' to new nasturtium & hollyhock & spider flowers, marveled again & again at the loveliness of cerinthe 'pride of gibraltar,' picked & ate some peas, got bit by skeeters, compiled a $250 martagon lily/heirloom dahlia order online with old house gardens & erased it before i did anything that rash (this whim will be revisited this weekend), patted myself on the back again about the fabulousness & lushness of this year's window boxes, planted some more greens, checked the weather report about every 2 hours ...

The viscious container gardening cycle continues, buy more plants, need more pots, buy more pots, need more plants. Luckily Joann Fabrics has some really nice glazed pottery on sale right now for 60% off-I'll be heading over there again at lunchtime tomorrow. I'm beginning to scare myself so my husband must be petrified. Especially since I sent him to Lowe's tonight for more potting soil. Don't even ask about the two trips I made to Homegoods on Saturday but if you're looking for iron accent furniture for the garden, check them out.

Tonight the rain held off and I had the good sense to weed and mulch. The weeds are winning, BTW. On Saturday I have my first garden get-together of the season-just a few of the gardening serial killers and ax murderers I've met here at GW. All the foul weather and the timing of it (basically weekends) has set me behind in getting the garden guest ready. Hopefully everyone else is in the same boat.

Lots of hungry bunnies around these days. favorite snacks are the lupin seedlings, chives and garlic chives. They kindly moved on to these after eating all the sunflower seedlings, all 50 of them. Very polite though cause they shared the sunflowers with their friends, the local chipmunks.
Can't do much of anything yet in my gardens as recovering from spinal surgery. Hope to get the docs OK next week to actually do something out there. I hate having to depend on everyone else to do the yard work for me.
The weeds are beginning to take over now, with all the rain we keep getting and the grass sure is growing too.
skeeter bugs sure are hungry and my blue hydrangeas are just totally drunk with all the water they are getting and it's free too. Should have gorgeous abundance of blooms on them this year.

Weeded and staked.
Planted annuals found at remote farmstand for 50 cents a pack that define bang for the buck.
Did a map of everything and started scrapbook with maps and tags.
Planted Stewartia (DS was close to saintly and had to redig a 4' hole after he hit major roots in the first chosen spot). Weeded and staked some more.
Tried to toss around compost but a shovelful felt more like a boulder.
Deadheaded roses.
Cut the most wonderful bouquets since the rain was toppling most everything.
Started bulb planning.
Did sun dances.
Weeded and staked.

Mostly same old same old, but I did start a new lasagna style bed around one of my trees - not sure what I'm going to do with it yet.

MoR, Cerinthe 'pride of gibraltar" looks like a real beauty, do you have to start new ones each spring, or does it ever survive or self-sow? And, by the way, do you have many mosquitos there?

I've just been weeding and deadheading, and losing ground quickly on both counts. Waiting for the designer to help me site a new patio ... getting antsy, waiting is not a natural activity for me. Might just have to plop it down somewhere and hope for the best.
