Annual Salvias

I can't seem to get enough of these plants. This year I haven't found my favorite yet, which is Mexican Bush Sage, S. leucantha; my local nursery says they'll have it when the weather gets hot enough for it (it likes the heat and sulks in the cold spring here).

I was surprised at all the new Salvia varieties they had, though - ones I hadn't tried before, not just the recently popular ones. I couldn't pass up 2 I haven't tried before: S. buchananii 'Wendy's Wish' which has the most interesting flower color and red stems, and S. viridis, or Painted Sage (also Clary Sage), which has great foliage and is a little smaller.

If you're into tender salvias, do you have any favorites? Have you grown painted sage or Wendy's Wish? How did they perform?

Here is a link that might be useful: Wendy's Wish
