I was so inspired by that garden that I had to start to start my own. Every year when I visit my son in Minnesota we make it a point to visit the Arboretum and are never disappointed. But isn't it called the St.Paul landscape arboretum (I may be wrong about that).I sure would like to know how they keep their roses from dying over the winter.

No, It's the Mn Landscape Arboretum. As for the roses, the hybrid teas anyway, they use the Mn Tip method which basically involves digging a trench, loosening the soil around the roots, tying the canes together, tipping it into the trench and covering with soil.

It's called either Minnesota Landscape Arboretum OR University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. They call themselve either name.

I am guessing they have a fairly large staff and different specialists for the different plants. I, too, would like to know why their hostas are so clean and how they do it.

Also I would like to know if they have Japanese beetles, how they handle that and the various other treatments they may have to give the roses. Maybe I will write them.

That MN tipping method would be a lot of work, but it does work, but I'm guessing shortens the life span of the rose, but better than not growing it at all or dying over the winter as HT's would there.

Oh, it's associated with the U of MN, they may use horticultural students for helpers and/or be well funded. Think of how much it would cost to maintain all that! Hosta heaven for sure.

They have some staff, but also rely heavily on volunteers to do a lot of garden maintenance.

If you ever get a chance to visit Cory's Wildflowers down in Chillicothe, Ohio, his place also has "hostas as far as the eye can see." His place is on a hillside and has the most hostas I have ever seen growing in one place!! I will have to try and find the pics from the time I visited there... hmmmm...

Sounds like another great place to visit. I forgot to mention last night, don't beat yourself up if your hostas aren't looking so great. Those at the arboretum don't always look fantastic either. Last summer at this thime they were pretty fried due to the drought. Maybe it killed off off some of the nasty ole slugs too and that's why the hostas look so good this year. I've also been there when they've had their share of slug damage too.
