Bridgewood Gardens vs Plant Delights Nursery

I want to purchase larger hostas. I have purchased from Bridgewood and felt they provided a pretty good sized hosta for the price.

Has anyone purchsed from both of these nurseries? Is the xtra money that Plant Delights charges worth it? I value a big hosta quickly more than paying the xtra money.

What about Halson's? Big plants are just average?

Hallson's sells MUCH bigger hostas than Bridgewood. Haven't bought from Plant Delights.

Bridgewood sent me quart pots, nicely rooted plants.
Hallson's sends bareroot but huge divisions of mature plants with excellent root system.
Also got similar quality plants from Northern Grown Perennials

Yes, there is a lot of sad news in that newsletter. Including the murder of nurseryman Todd Bachman at the Olympics. Plant Delights is having an open house this weekend and next weekend. I have lots of photos posted in my blog in a slideshow of the one that I went to in July. It was my first trip there and made my first purchases from PDN. I can only agree with what y'all are saying. I absolutely love the Farmers Market and buy most of my plants from there - at least the ones I don't start from seed and Tony's place - well - that is just another horticultural treat. My very first introduction to PDN was a private tour as a Master gardener. There were 7 of us on the tour and Tony took us over every inch of the place. I was in HEAVEN. I have been back many times since and never come away empty handed..... Lynne

This is my favorite, 'treat time' nursery. I resurrected this thread after it came up in a search. Over the years I have purchased many different items, and yes, they are not the cheapest in town. But you will receive a healthy plant, and if not, you will find their customer service above par. I once made the 6+ hour drive to take a propagating class taught by the good folks here and would love to go back sometime soon. Plus, their catalog is a hoot to read......and the covers are a work of art (literally). This year's cover features many famous gardeners........and no, I do not work for them. Plants I've purchased from PDN were very large - big enough to divide immediately (and I did, as a friend and I share lots of our purchases). However, I live close, so I've only purchased in person at Open House. I've been told those are the exact same plants they ship. Obviously, very new offerings won't be as large. For example, Stitch in Time....

I heard very mixed reviews on PDN and the shipping is expensive.

You absolutely will NOT be disappointed in Hallson's. Huge w/ root systems to your knees.
