well I let them go, but they didn't go, they are still right where i put them, on some pink and yellow lantana i did not even know i had growing in my yard! I found it today growing by the fence in the back yard, it's climbing around some kind of hyacinth weed i forgot the name of it. but it is in a good spot for them, sunny but not out in the open, i will check on them when i get home and I guess bring them in if they are still there, hopefully they will take off and have time to do what they are programmed to do, they are quite tame now, if i put my hand in ther cage, they crawl right on it, and sit, lol, and they have stopped protesting that much when i unroll their proboscis to put it in the sugar water!:-) say a prayer for them! they need all the help they can get at this point! thanks!

I'm just south of you in I.C.; you should have no trouble at all with Bloodgood, though a little winter wind protection (and protection of the trunk from direct sun in the winter) wouldn't hurt. I grew both BG and Kwanzan cherry in Cedar Falls, but late spring freezes as often as not trashed the flowers on Kwanzan. Don

I think what you may have heard of is frequent pruning causing these to become diseased through the wounding that occurs when that is done. So, you would avoid lots of canker formation by not pruning so much. If you have a specific canker disease you know to be prevalent there seek guidance from California Cooperative Extension. Japanese flowering cherries sold on dwarfing rootstocks are on the market up here, perhaps that is the route you should have taken. Otherwise planting fewer of the trees probably could have prevented your presently developing concern.

Marlorena, we must have cross posted. I wasn’t sure what you meant about my being in the picture, at first. I hoped you weren’t referring to the painting of the “butt cat”. It is of course a BOBCAT, but “Butt cat” is an old family joke. My dad commissioned a painter who wasn’t native to this country, to paint a series of three wildlife paintings, a heron, a raccoon, a bobcat. On the bill, it said; 3 paintings, one raccoon, one heroin,(as in the illegal drug), and one buttcat. When my parents sold the cabin in Utah, where they hung, we each got to chose one of the paintings. Since I’m the eldest of three, I was allowed to chose first. Since I love cats, and we had always had a hoot referring to it as “The Buttcat painting”, it was an easy choice. Now that you pointed it out, I do see myself in the mirror! I wouldn’t have noticed that, on my phone. I’m thankful I wasn’t in my robe, or pjs:) Good eye! Krista, I agree that Baronne Prevost is rather HT shaped. Mine will look more HT shaped, once I cut off the longer canes on each side. It’s obvious that I’ve been cutting in her middle. Marlorena, I’m surprised that you don’t get more fragrance. I’m lucky to get good fragrance from any of my roses in my hot, dry climate. I get fragrance from BP even during the summer. I would have thought your climate would be much more cunducive to fragrance. Yours isn’t that young, is it? I don’t remember noticing the fragrance as much the first two years. Jin, yours looks so happy with the cooler weather. I know mine is! My blooms were on the smaller side for the first two years. I’m sure yours will just get bigger and better. Lisa
