NEED: Big, Vase shaped and upright
Comments (11)I can suggest you put the Paradise Power in the bed. It has the sort of darker green margin that would mix well with any other gold leaning hosta. Maybe even the creamy margin of Sagae. I have a Paradise Sunshine beneath (meaning lower) than the raised pot of Sagae and it works great with softer colors too. I know, you did not mention it, but I bet you have it somewhere in the garden. Otherwise I'd say add the Gold Regal with the Paradise Power. Put some more gold in there. I have a Limelight and it is getting tall like you say yours is. The green flowers are forming now....See MoreDo you have an upright piano?
Comments (23)If you absolutely MUST be mobile, there are electronic "pianos" that are lightweight and very portable. The sad thing: they have to be plugged into electricity. The happy thing: they never need tuning. One of my schools has a Yamaha Clavinova, 88 key - plays like a piano except that you plug it in. This even looks like a modern basic piano - no ugly ironing board type stands for this! Yamaha and Kawai both make these, and some of them are lovely pieces of furniture but they don't weigh what a real piano does! My other school has a baby grand that they used to mistreat. I told them several times: you need to move it away from the doorway, it's not meant to sit in front of a door that is constantly open. The church that uses the Multi-purpose room complained that it was always out of tune. Finally, the district moved it to the stage. I can't use it for music classes up there, so I have one of those little portable Yamaha's that take up space on top of an empty student desk. But it serves the purpose! Jaybird, I hear ya on how much music. Mine is in the shelving under the stairs AND in two crates in the storage room, and some went to college with my daughter (never to be seen by my eyes again, probably - but no matter). Comments (26)Jon, I only wish I still had a Paul's Glory. It was my favorite hosta for years and years. Mine had a couple of reversions, but even the variegated eyes began to look more green than light centered. I dug the whole plant out about 2 or 3 years ago. Divided out the reversions and planted the solids in a very back bed. Gave the still PG-looking part a new home. Now I don't think that part is even still alive....See MoreBegonia canes don't grow upright
Comments (20)Edie, There are a lot of hybrids with maculata in their genes. My own hybrid I feel is easier care than maculata but is still prone to mildew. One that is a beauty but still a hard one to grow indoors is Flamingo Queen (it has maculata in it).. Sophie, Irene, Lana, Silver Mist are a lot less fussy than maculata. Comte de Lesseps is an easy grower with red flowers. If you lived in a tropical zone you could probably grow maculata without much ado but when the weather starts to cool, you better start prepping for mildew attacks. I don't recall the name of this one (a cutting from FWBG) but so easy to grow. It is growing in a pan with other begonias for years now. The white bloomer is my own seed grown begonias from maculata. a variety of canes makes a nice contrast in size, shape, patterns, and color Don't get hung up on one begonia as there are many to choose from that may fit your personality a lot better than maculata....See MoreUser
