This Hosta is in shade and when I say the colours look like "June" except reversed, I mean "June" in shade. The light green becomes more golden it seems in sun, but this one is shadier and so much more green than gold.

lykaon and dave - brace yourself for my periodic lecture - you hit one of my pet peeves - the term "reversion" - which I believe should be stricken from garden language. Guacamole is a sport from Fragrant Bouquet, which is a light green with a cream margin. Fragrant Bouquet is a cross between Fascination - a streaker that is a cross between two other streakers - and Summer Fragrance, a deep green with white margin. So how in the heck could Guacamole "revert" to an all green plant. How can it "go back" to a plant that has, as far as we can tell, never been in the family line... at least for four previous generations?! when they tissue cultured Guacamole they got a lot of not-true-to-type plants... many all green and some all yellow. Instead of throwing them them away, they named them Fried Green Tomatoes and Fried Bananas and sold them. In this case, not a bad idea... good foundation plants... nice neutral coloring to use with some of the more dramatic fragrant plants. Guacamole is pretty variable... which is why we have Stained Glass and Cathedral Windows and and and... The margin will streak and vary... without actually being something I'd call a sport. Guacamole will also sport to an all-green sometimes. That green typically looks like Fried Green Tomatoes. Whether it is identical or just similar would require a genetic test, but most hosta folks are comfortablere with the fact that people will call it Fried Green Tomatoes. (I'm resigned to this... though I'll bet some of these end up lighter or darker or smaller leafed or larger leafed... there isn't just one way to sport...)

YES! That's it! I checked the other in my yard and they have the same flowers, vein count, and coloring. The chipmunks have been out of control this summer, I think they multiple faster then rabbits. I finally had to put a snap trap out, and I caught a mouse the first night. Reloaded it, went back in the house for two hours, went to check on it, and the trap is completely gone! I'm thinking a chipmunk got in it, and then one of the hawks that lives in my yard flew away with it. Jen

Many days of below zero (-16 F one morning) weather here and a really brutal winter. The only saving grace was the snow which was several feet thick. This ensured nothing dries out. I don't know about pots but the cold surely didn't kill them. My only loss was one mushy tuft that had a big chunk of Irish Spring soap on top of it. I think you would see signs of voles, holes / tracks. Did you inadvertently feed them anything or spray the area with anything? It had to be something capable of affecting a wide area. Even mulch if not stored properly and stirred can produce deadly fumes for plants. It is a real mystery but, to me, but it had to be something that was done to the many plants, perhaps in the Fall, killing them which, at the time, may have been seen as just going dormant???
