Some more pics from my yard

It's been raining now for 2 days, which is a good thing! So I found some time to post some pics I took earlier this week. We did a test run of the garden walk earlier this week with the people either in the walk or working the walk. I had one guy who stayed at my yard 5 minutes, said all hostas were green no matter what everyone else said and promptly left for the next garden. I'm pretty sure the photos show that not all hostas are alike.

OMG - I love the shape of the leaves on the Nigrescens!!!! LOL @ Squash Casserole, maybe they meant it will Squash and make a casserole of your other hostas....WOW - he's a big guy!!

Keith, Thanks! The spanish moss looks good, but I think it's freeze dried. Even the moss in my garage did not pull through (probably from the lack of moisture), but it was alive well into February so it was very close to the light at the end of the tunnel. I'll definitely be replacing it all in the spring. I've noticed that Chamerops pups show more cold tolerance than the mother plant, I still have no idea why. haha. My guess is that it's because they are closer to the ground. Thanks Trishmick! Sounds like you had a good time too! I hope you have luck with germinating the seeds you collected. I collected some loquat seeds from Florida 3 years ago and still haven't tried them. For some reason I never get around to starting seeds even when I have them right in front of me haha. I'm hoping one day to drive to Florida instead of taking a plane so I can bring back some nice seeds and plants! Thanks Bradley! I killed 3 pygmy palms indoors in the past so I know how that feels. I have found them to be the hardest palms to grow indoors which is weird considering that they are considered pretty hardy palms. For now on mine will definitely stay in the garage over the winter. Beautiful garden, Jen. What's with that guy? How can anyone say all hostas are green? Oh well, to each his own I guess. But, your hosta look wonderful and your plantings very well laid out. Your Abiqua Drinking Gourd is gonna take over all them hosta around it in a couple years if it gets anywhere near as big as mine....lol

Beautifully grown mature Hostas. Thanks for sharing. Tell me how wide your Squash Casserole is. My understanding is that it is low and spreading. Right now I have a baby in a pot and I'm trying to decide where to plant it.

Thanks for the great pix. Did you lose your sandals kicking that "all hostas are green" guy down the road? I get similar remarks with conifers as well.

Steve, I thought this would give you a better idea of how large Squash Casserole is (and did divide it last year).

Here is a another hosta for camparison, this is Elegans which has been in this spot for 8 years.

Karen I would say the average age of most of my hostas are anywhere from 4-8 years. I did have the advantage of having some great local growers, so I often bought mature hostas.

TJ I did want to kick the hosta hater right down the street! LOL

Jen, ya know, I was at a sale today and almost bought a 2-gallon Nigrescens.... Beautiful big hosta. But the price wasn't right. I might go back tomorrow to see if they wanna wheel-n-deal.

Thanks for the great picks! I need to take my computer out to my Squash Casserole so it can see what it should be aspiring to. Right now, it's got a long way to go!
