Zone 3/4 newbie needs advice on growing Hydrangea

I'm getting a couple of Hydrangea 'Annabelle' in a plant trade here on GW, and am excited to grow the plant. I know they grow up here 'cause I've had friends who've had success. Since it's a white variety, so I don't need to worry about getting pink or blue color (I heard that's a whole trick on it's own). The spaces I have are varying degrees of part shade, and I have 1 that's mostly sun, but I don't know if I want to break ground out there yet. I'm primarily looking at an area that is in a "hole" in the trees, so that it gets pretty direct sun for 4-6 hours of the day. The rest of the area is dappled sun/shade.

What about soil? In northern Wisconsin, we have lots of sand. I use a lot of rotted manure and compost on my plants, with woodchip mulch over that. The existing soil is quite acidic, due to the oaks.

And then, how do I overwinter it? Since I'm on the border of hardiness, I want to be sure that my plant is happily bedded for the winter.
