Has something changed here?

Normally a posted message stays at the top until someone responds. Tonight I am seeing several posts that don't have responses down at the bottom of the page. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

I'm not sure. However, I'm sure that the algorithm that they use is more complicated than that. An unanswered post shouldn't stay near the top forever.

I think there were so many unanswered post they were just down a ways. I didn't notice anything different last night.

Sometimes, things just..... "Make sense" ...whether they are part of a series of Decorating Rules, Feng Shui, Granny's Gems of Wisdom, or Your favorite professional painter's observations while painting 25 different houses. Seriously. For example....dark colors CAN make an already low-light room look dreary and depressing. (That's why you need lots of light sources to offset the effect of using deeper colors) Or.....Using the same nice color throughout the main living spaces creates "flow". Well, of course. Anytime your eye doesn't have to stop to take in a different color, things tend to look more organized and seamless. And Sweeby made an important point about the use of color that also makes sense. She said, "I've come to the strong conclusion that there's absolutely something about the quality of light coming from different directions that influences how different rooms handle color" But will certain colors bring you Good luck? Will hanging mirrors in your bedroom bring you Bad luck? Will breaking a mirror bring you 7 years of Bad luck? You can call it anything you wish........but some things make sense and some things do not. I have only enjoyed just over 50 years of a very, very happy and good life thus far. My bed was placed (according to one friend who quoted Feng Shui stuff to me) "Coffin Style" with the head of the bed visible from the doorway, for many, many years. That's Many, Many, years of a great marriage, wonderful, obedient, respectful, children, good friends, nice job, and thousands of "good hair days". Currently, I have a gold, not blue, bedroom, with mirrors on most every wall. My bedroom desk has nice square corners, as does my dresser, tv armoire, and nightstands. I watch t.v. in bed and type on my computer a few feet away. I think a lot of people are looking for some sort of guidance or principles or direction in their lives, but sometimes, all this stuff just obscures what's really important. Red

I've been staring at your layout for quite a while and really can't figure out what to suggest. It seems like you have so much space, but the kitchen looks awkward to me. Personally, I wouldn't want the clean up sink on the peninsula looking over the breakfast room, but I'm not really sure where else to suggest moving it. Butler's Pantry - if you really think kids are going to be running thru there, I'm not really sure if I would want it as my "snack center". Imagine when your kids are older and you and your DH are standing in there fixing coffee and bagels and the kids try to run through. Just seems like a small space to get those types of tasks done. Dish storage-I agree with Bmore that the type of hutch you're talking about could be difficult to access. Also, if your dishes are near the sink, they are fairly far from frig, pantry and proposed "snack center". The easiest path is right between the prep sink and range, which could be an issue. I also think you have a long walk with groceries from the garage, thru the mudroom, thru the butlers pantry into the kitchen. Depending on what you do with the pantry/laundry room space, you might want a door from the garage into one of those rooms so you have a straight shot with groceries. This might be crazy, but I almost see a better space with 2 islands instead of that peninsula. Shrink the bigger island the 6' and then add a second island next to it that would house the clean up sink and DW. You could unload dishes into upper cabs and lower drawers on the back wall.It wouldd almost be like a galley kitchen with 2 islands. Or...you could do 1 really long island. Another idea...does the pantry have to be on that side of the kitchen? If you moved it to the other side, eliminated the peninsula, closed up that pantry doorway, you would have more counter space(I think). You could move the range a little further towards the frig and get the clean up sink on the back wall. I'm sorry if this is sounding negative. I'm really just trying to help. There's just something not working for me here. Any chance of widening the kitchen at all? I think the biggest issue is that you have very limited wall space. You only really have the back wall, which when you factor in the doorway for the pantry, there's not that much room there either.

I use Microsoft Explorer as my browser, but I also have turned on the pop-up blocker in Norton Internet Security. Many pop-ups are blocked except for the one you are concerned about. I find that if I close the ad using the little "X" in its upper right hand corner, it does not come back to annoy me until a new page appears.

Weird, but I have a link to the FL gardening forum on my browser bookmarks bar & I always go through that w/ no problem @ all. Since I'm on Chrome & have Android OS on my phone, all the bookmarks are synced. & I think the most frequent way I get here is through the link @ Home Decorating forum. I find it best to click through the links to 'Home' forums & 'Garden' forums on the sidebar, since that's not cached & is automatically refreshed. Wondering what Operating Systems others are using? Is it iOS or Android, Windows or Mac? & who else has their favorite forum as their portal, rather than the forums index? & I don't log out either - why bother?

I've also noticed that unless I refresh the page, any new posts are not showing up. So have you been refreshing after you respond to a few topics? And, some of those on page 2 I never saw, so maybe they were the new things that stayed at the bottom of the page.

They are tinkering with something, I'm sure the changes are not simply to the way you can now post pictures directly to GWeb.

Yeah, I went looking for a post I made fairly recently, where someone asked me a question, and couldn't find it even 5 pages deep. I feel bad.

I noticed it too. I found that when I returned to the Hosta Forum repeatedly, the lineup of maybe the top 10 or so postings were rearranged. Though I am not so inquisitive that I charted them, I thought I did see repetitions of the arrangements.

We have a very active forum here, and to me it is a blessing. My tropical fish forum may not have a single new post in several days. We have so many that if one doesn't get a response quickly it is literally dropped way down the list. Then it gets kicked back up via the rearrangement I have seen and begins to get responses.

I think it serves us well.

Yes, an unanswered post that was less than 2 hours old was WAY down on the list. In the past it stays there for awhile (no definition of "awhile", but it used to be at least 24 hours, I think). Had nothing to do with refreshing. Just a quirk I hope. We need at least a day to reply to a post, due to all our time differences, and if it goes way down the page, after other posts with sooner time-stamps, who would look there for an unswered post? I've been on this forum since before I-Village bought Garden Web, and this was different. Oh well.

The queue of unanswered posts is somewhere around 5 posts, if more are posted the earlier ones fall into the regular lineup. If someone posts 9 posts all at once and no one replies, the oldest four (I'm not sure of the exact number) drop into the rotation.

Thank you, Jeanne! That makes sense to me. I hope hostabilly sees this. He has a lot of knowledge (I believe his wife is Bevie, who's name is on a LOT of HL photos), but too many posts at one time are messing with the works.
