let get some dark shiny pics in here !

Last year someone had some unusual (to me) Hosta that were so Dark Green and Shiny.. I believe it had the word OIL in the name...

I'd love to see some of that type :)

Hey everyone. Been a while since I've posted here, but I'm loving seeing everyones plants so much that I thought I'd share some of my favorites with everyone as well. My oldest Thanksgiving cactus. It'll be 4 years in January. It doesn't look like much, but I'm thrilled with it 'cause it lost all its segments during the spring and I think it's coming back quite nicely. Opuntia santa-rita. One of my favs. Will be 2 years in April. Jade ovata 'Gollum'. Turned 2 in September. Haworthia fasciata. Really like this one. 1.5 years old. Philodendron scandens. 3.5 years old. Another Phildendron. Not sure of its exact name. Only 6 months old. Dracaena deremensis 'Yellow Stipe'. My mother can't grow these worth a bean, but mine's doing quite well I think. Will be 3 years in May. Dracaena marginata. Turned 4 in September. Ficus elastica 'Black Prince'. 2.5 years old. Hildewinteria aureispina. Will be 3 years in April. Coleus blumei. Looks quite pathetic right now but that's because I just cut it back hard. It always grows back beautifully. I'm proud of this one because Coleus plants are classified as annuals and this one is turning 3 years next month (Decemeber). Hope I didn't post too much. Beautiful gardens, everyone! Here's our front garden, at least the part to the right of the driveway and garage which dominates the front of the house. It's a little cottagey. A little naturalistic. A little native-y. As a result, a bit of a jumble. I hope to eventually dig out the rest of the grass...and I badly need a walkway from the sidewalk to the front door so people don't have to come up the driveway to get to the front door...but that probably won't happen until we put our daughter through college.

Hi!! I think we will try to heat it up a little to make sure it sticks. We did use the rolling pin as well. I wonder if we should rent a roller?? For cleaning, we actually used our carpet shampooer set on the hard floor option. Our slab had tons of construction debris and joint compound and this REALLY helped. We just used warm water in it. Then I mopped it with my Mr. Clean. We bought the Henry brand hole filler from Lowe's - it's the same brand as the latex tile primer and is right next to it on the shelf in the back. It took a couple of nights to prep the floor and then it only took about an hour and a half or so to put it all down. Like other things, the prep work is what took so long! But if you were putting it down over existing flooring, it'd be a lot easier!! We brought the gunstock color home, but it didn't look as real to me as the golden oak. It was very pretty, but a little too dark for our house. We have dark furniture so this looks better here~

Thanks, Beth. I have to have this rose! It's exactly the colour I was looking for when I planted Munstead Wood and Dark Desire. If either outgrow their space (and both seem headed in that direction with DD sending out a 5.5' shoot!), I may move them and plant this instead. How is the repeat and general floriforousness? Hmmmm. Do I really need two hydrangeas where I have them?

I have some that become that dark and shiny color. They do it well along in the season. How about some shots from last year?

If you want to see which hosta are the darkest, there is a list of hosta with such dark color at the link below.

King of Spades in July 2012. First year look.

And 2 different Lederhosen with two different colors. #1 is smooth and shiny dark green, while #2 is waxy blue still.

And, that same #1 Lederhosen looked like this a couple of days ago.

Midnight oil is the one I remembered ! Old pics are as entertaining as new ..I think the darkest plant I may have is Deep Blue Sea, but it was a last minute buy in the fall.. So I am unsure how it will show this year.

I always look thru the Hosta Library pics and THINK I sure hope mine looks like THAT one ....

Okay, now I see. Babka and I were typing at same time, so I did not see her post about Midnight Oil.

Interesting hosta. Be glad when it is generally available. Or, maybe at the AHS or First Look Auctions? Who knows.

But until that one comes along, I find that King of Spades has a similar look. Only, I'm judging from MY King of Spades, which is just in his 2nd year here. The photos on Hosta Library do not do it justice, or show its plant habits. So hard to compare.

Another one I'll be comparing to Midnight Oil is small Nippers. It is a rounded leaf though, maybe not as shiny green. But it sure is growing very vigorously and with great substance. It cups as well.

Irish Luck was new for me last year. It darkens up later in the season and is super shiny. Reminds me a lot of ventricosa

Here it is last year.

And then earlier this week. Still a lot of darkening up to do yet.

Tracy's Emerald Cup is my darkest hosta. Not so shiny though.
