An Early Christmas Present!!

Hi everyone,

I found, to my surprise, the other day buds on a peduncle on one of the DS-70 cuttings ladygreensleeves sent me!!!

I'm very excited as I didn't think they wouldn't bloom until spring. The buds are very tiny and will take some time to bloom but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Brad....this is the mother plant some of the cuttings came from, it's been blooming like crazy for some time now.Wish we had smell-a-vision so that you could get a whiff of all those blooms.

Can you see the necter glistening on the flower umbel?

Thanks for the suggestions. This looks like a shoe rack, but the shoes would have to be a size 18 or so. I looked at the store display businesses online and didn't see one. It may have been custom made for a particular business. There are lots of store display items that would work for something like this. The curves can be sawed off to use it for a bottle tree or something else. I'll probably plant some plants in it besides the empty pots, and hadn't thought of the coconut hair. It would work nicely. Thanks for the weed cloth tip. Sounds like a good idea for any of these basket type plantings. Storing dolls or animals on it would be fun. They could be climbing every which way on it. It would be a good clothes line also. If we can get it together soon enough we may light it up in the front yard for Christmas. I spray painted it green today and will post a photo tomorrow on this thread. It looks a lot better already. It comes apart just by unthreading it off the pole. There are 3 sets of 2 levels. They're pretty stable and could be used separately on posts or a tabletop. It's amazing how many great ideas people here come up with. Now who wants to go on a dumpster store rack hunt, lol?! The pile can catch fire if there is no moisture, and the heat can drive off a lot of moisture too (the steam you saw). If the material is not moist, sprinkle it with the hose. It takes quite a lot of water to soak all the way down into it. If you are moving the pile, you can add a little water as you go, spraying it each time you add 6 inches worth. I live in a very dry climate and I have to water all my compost, what little I do any more. Mostly I just spread it out as mulch beds and that does not heat up or catch fire. But for piles, I run an oscillating sprinkler, the kind that tap tap tap around, one hour for every foot thick. Then I check how far down the water has penetrated and run more as needed.

Thanks Gene and Silvia The beans as Silvia said are Kentucky Wonder The black fig is an unknown from Sicily Mt Etna Area which I have posted before on both forums. The Conadria was acquired this year in July and has grown well I have 3 more fruits that are ripening. Gene I believe my source on the Conadria is the same as yours I will not post source since I think 1 or 2 trees I got were wrong and don't want to cause any problems. You can e-mail me and I will disclose The Conadria is a keeper. Silvia My veggie garden has not done well as I have neglected for differnt health reasons regarding myself and mom and dad Hopefully my second planting will go better if things work out. Here is a pic of the Conadria I just took, large fruit and I think it will do well in Fl. Darn I miss the Super Buffet LMAO. I'm still rocking back and forth this morning Lol Sal

I have DS-70, and I really like this hoya . It is easy to grow and blooms like crazy.

Here's another DS-70 in bloom. It's by the front door, and the other one is by the back door, so I smell one coming and going.....LOL.

Alba.....Thanks, camera's been acting up so havent been able to contribute photo's lately. I agree that DS-70 is one of the easier hoya's to grow and bloom.

That's great, Brad. DS-70 is a nice Hoya, it's leaves nice and succulent but soft. I've had cuttings rooting in water that bloomed. My big one has been dormant for some time (I let it get too dry, I think) but it's been looking much better and will hopefully reward me with a bloom cycle again soon. Unfortunately, for me, I have never detected any fragrance whatsoever on this one.

I have a nice DS-70 plant, but no blooms, not even the slightest sign. . . I'm happy for you. . .

Ladygreensleeves, those are some healthy looking plants you've got! It must be nice to get a whiff of those blooms!
The nectar makes the flowers look even more beautiful!

Thanks Brad.....I'm not a very good photographer so once in awhile I capture a good shot of the nector. Pretty soon now you will know what it smells like too.I'ts great to know that the cuttings are doing well for you.
