Just got back Today from a 7 day cruise on an Italian cruise line Costa in Southern Caribbean. The first thing I did of course was to check my trees and what a nice surprise after a 7 day Italian eat fest.

I was particularly surprised of the great taste of the Conadria. A sweet full berry taste with a great seed crunch. I could have taken a knife and spread it like a preserve out of a bottle with no sugar added. The figs as you can see were very ripe and I lost a few that were over done.

The Conadria are the 2 cut figs upper right

All I can say is NICE. A mouth watering picture for sure. I sure glad someone gave me a jar a figs to remind me of what I'm missing. Thanks buddy.

I have a year old Conadria that I hope gives me a taste this coming year. Those in your picture say "eat me". What are the dark figs, they also look tasty.

Sal, what kind of beans are those. They look sort of like the Roma's I planted for the first time this year except I think mine were flatter and perhaps not a long. Beans and okra are what I grow while waiting for figs to mature.

That harvest is wonderful! Are those Kentucky wonder beans? And those figs are to die for. Congratulations!

The pile can catch fire if there is no moisture, and the heat can drive off a lot of moisture too (the steam you saw). If the material is not moist, sprinkle it with the hose. It takes quite a lot of water to soak all the way down into it. If you are moving the pile, you can add a little water as you go, spraying it each time you add 6 inches worth. I live in a very dry climate and I have to water all my compost, what little I do any more. Mostly I just spread it out as mulch beds and that does not heat up or catch fire. But for piles, I run an oscillating sprinkler, the kind that tap tap tap around, one hour for every foot thick. Then I check how far down the water has penetrated and run more as needed.

It would be great if these are M and Z bulbs. I have had really good experiences with the health of their bulbs...just not true to color but always interesting and worth the time and money.

Marilyn, we were in Tucson in 1979, the Sonora Desert Museum was incredible even back then. They didn't have their Hummingbird exhibit then :o( but we thoroughly enjoyed what they did have, I could have spent all day there. We also saw part of the filming of 'The Gambler' at old Tucson, went into the caves, that was an eery experience when they turned the lights out for a minute. I thought I saw a Anna's this summer when the Rufus were here but couldn't say for sure as it was here and gone so quickly I didn't get a good look. The Anna's for a very long time were only found in a very small area of the city but now seem to be spreading out into other neighborhoods. These little gems don't migrate so now that we have them we will make sure there's fresh food for them at all times...Annette

Is your kiln programmable? And did you get a manual with it? When I got mine, I also bought a book to teach me but everything I needed to know to get started was in the manual. If you have any questions, I would be willing to try to help. You will love it once you get the hang of it.

Thanks Gene and Silvia The beans as Silvia said are Kentucky Wonder The black fig is an unknown from Sicily Mt Etna Area which I have posted before on both forums. The Conadria was acquired this year in July and has grown well I have 3 more fruits that are ripening.
Gene I believe my source on the Conadria is the same as yours I will not post source since I think 1 or 2 trees I got were wrong and don't want to cause any problems. You can e-mail me and I will disclose The Conadria is a keeper.
Silvia My veggie garden has not done well as I have neglected for differnt health reasons regarding myself and mom and dad Hopefully my second planting will go better if things work out.
Here is a pic of the Conadria I just took, large fruit and I think it will do well in Fl.
Darn I miss the Super Buffet LMAO. I'm still rocking back and forth this morning Lol

Very nice plant. Conadria is known to be reliable. Thanks to a kind member in the forum & advise. I have a Conadria now from the said member. Further research & talking to a fig guru confirm Conadria's reliabilities. Looking forward to next year crop.

Hi Sal,
beautiful pictures and many thanks for posting them at this time of year.
Bet you gained a few pounds eating the italian food as you say your still rocking back and forth i would have literally fell over or fell aslepp for good amount of time after each meal.

Silvia thanks for your well wishes I've pretty much recovered from my shoulder surgery can't say the same for my parents who are getting on in age 80 & 85 which keeps us busy.
Martin Thanks for looking and the nice compliment. Believe or not I limited myself on this cruise and only ordered 1 entree every night except for Lobster night where I had 2 fillets and 4 tails and only 1 plate of king Crab legs. I justified this by not having dessert that night. LMAO

Y'all floridians do have a leg up on the rest of us. I would be jealous but I remember living there as a youngster. Nice place to visit but not to live there.
I was always amazed at my grandfather's little garden patch in Clearwater and his backyard citrus grove. It amazed me to see fresh veggies for the holidays (though his collards never amounted to much) and even more so that he could do it in pure sand.
