I just wanted to post that I was out at the National Arboretum a few weeks ago. The large Q. acutas looked like they sustained some damage from teh past winter. Some twig and a few branches died back. Sad to see. But they will certainly survive. The Q. salicina looked like it had NO damage at all surprisingly. I have never seen acorns on them. Interestingly the Q. phillyreoides had some acorns. No apparent dieback. They all looked rather shrubby to me and not large single trunked trees. L. henyri and Q. myrsinifolias looked just fine. Q. glauca specimens at the Arboretum have all had a rough go of it over the years. Numerous diebacks. Pretty pathetic. They should really not be grown up here. But maybe they got some northern provenance stock that they wanted to try. I didn't see where they were from. Unrelated, but all the hollies looked great. Even Ilex latifolia. The Ilex latifolia in my yard looks great as well. No apparent winter damage. A small amount of leaf spot but overall I was very pleased. google citrus grafters and find out what rootstock should be used in yor area and if they can send you to a merchant that handles that rootstock. Do you have salt there. shallow soil, clay. they can help you. In my area only poncirus trifoliata and some crosses with can survive, so I can't help. Also your county agent can help. With citrus greening you may not be able. your agent will know. Best of luck to you

I checked out that site and it had a lot to say I tried to send the following email but it said they dont recieve from hotmail. So I decided to copy it just as I wrote it and post it here. My name is Ssmittee and I just ate my first piece of tamerind candy/fruit and found it so pleasing that I sucked on the seed like I did when I was a child with olive pits lol. I live in Polk County which is half way between Tampa Bay and Orlando. We are actually almost dead center of our state. I lived most of my life in Washington state and have been in love with the tropicals and am growing and eating everything they produce. [my papaya tree produced 47 3 to 4 lb fruits and I dried froze and ate and shared every one of them. I know the tree is huge so I guess a house plant is out, lol ..ok here is my questions: 1. Will it survive in my area? about once a year it drops to 25 2 or 3 days. This year it lasted about 2 weeks. 2. will they grow AND produce flowers and fruit in a large pot as in a 25 gallon planter. With the help of my 2-wheel dolly and my handicapped ramp, my living room sorta looked like a tropical forest. 3. Finally, Can you tell me how to prepare the seeds for propagation. I do appreciate anyone who is willing to take a few minutes to answer these questions for a stranger. After reading how to get rid of chipmunks on GW I rigged up a five gallon bucket with water and a plastic plate filled with sunflower seeds. "My DH said that will never work". The very next morning I was watching a chipmunk running around the bucket. It checked out the ramp spread with peanut butter. It was already licked clean. He then climbed the back of the waterfall rocks and jumped about two feet right into the bucket. "I was thinking won't work huh" Then I saw his little head going up and down. He was really enjoying the sunflower seeds. I went out to see what was going on. It seems it was pretty cold that night and the water in the bucked was frozen and so was the seeds in the plate. I laughed my head off. I called my sister and gave her the laugh for the day. Now I have a smaller seed container a (two inch lid) and I am hoping for better weather and fewer chipmunk's.
