Bradenton - Sarasota gardening

We should be moving to that area before next fall. I'll be bringing some tropical plants with me. Sadly, the greenhouses have to be left behind. Can I plant them in the ground in that area or will frost kill them? I haven't found a good website on gardening in that area yet.

Well this would be the website you've been looking for. Welcome!
Where are you moving from? What kind of tropicals are you bringing with? Chances are you'll be able to plant them in the ground. If they are killed by a freeze, they will probably grow back from the roots.
Figure out if you will be gardening in zone 9 or 10. We will be able to help with most of your questions. Here's another site to get you started.

Greenhouses aren't much use in Sarasota unless it's to keep the summer rain off plants or for 2 weeks in Jan or Feb you don't want your tomatoes to freeze.

Welcome also from a neighbor 30 minutes south.

Choose your planting spots carefully. Those tropicals you own can become monsters in sub-tropical Sarasota. Don't want to lose your house, lol.
Some houseplants achieve tree size here.

Amber that sounds awful! I hope you're feeling better, I know how that can hurt! There was too much there for me to think I'd seen everything; I know there are things I wish I'd remembered while there. I bought a bunch of nice orchids including a Maxillaria whatever - the coconut one - I've been wanting and a 10 gal aquarium for $2 for another cuttings greenhouse. I looked at that 50 and thought nope, I sold mine and it's way too big for me to lift, glad someone got it who wanted it. If you haven't been down don't worry! There's still a lot there! Someone suggested name tags with our screen names so we'd be able to meet everyone, that would have been fun. I agree 100%.
Careful with those ficus! They can get quite large!
I'm an hour north and 1 zone difference. I grow tropicals and they were badly hurt last year but then came back stronger than before.
I have a shadehouse which was intended for orchids but now has many succulents...and they need protection from excessive summer rain.
You really shouldn't have a cold weather problem with you tropicals...they are going to be sooo happy!
