Brussels Sprouts

Got a little late start on these in our garden this year. These have been in since the second week in October, and we got the seedlings from Home Depot this time, so we're not sure what the variety is. These have done really well for us at this time of year in central Florida even though we have read they are supposed to be difficult. If you want to try them, just remember to put them in full sun, work in some nitrogen fertilizer before planting and also side dress them with fertilizer from time to time. Work in some organic matter like cow manure before planting too. Most importantly: keep them well mulched and water once per day. The soil here holds water about as well as a bucket of ball bearings. We froze several bags of these last year, but frozen are not anywhere near as good as fresh, so I don't think we will be doing that again. If you hate them you should try fresh, since they are much better!
