Why 4 ounce jars?

Some of the new jelly recipes in the Ball Complete Book say that they make x number of 4 oz jars. One of them is roasted garlic jelly. You roast the garlic, then smash it with the vinegar and wine, steep and then drip though cheesecloth. You take the garlic liquid and add the sugar etc. It has no solids. It says the yield is nine 4 oz jars. Can you think of a safety reason why it couldn't be canned in 8 ounce jars? I just don't have enough 4 ounce jars lying about.
