OK.....Let's get this party started!

Plant trade at my house Sunday, Oct 31.

I'm in Kenneth City, next door to St. Petersburg

It's from 2 - 5 pm

We'll have the "plant trade" out front on the driveway,

so everyone can walk around the yard freely.

Bring a handful of plants and a covered dish.

Finger food - Does that sound ghoulish?

Yep, it's on Halloween Day!

If you feel the need to dress-up, we'll let you.

Hi Cheryl- Please send me your address so I can attend.... I have been rooting and potting-up Coleus and Blood Leaf and a bunch of stuff, and if you let me know what you need in 'finger-food' I'm glad to bring it... non-fattening of course ! ahem ...... also I'll bring some chairs ? Thanx, sally

If I had to do it all over again, and know what I do now, I would recoomend the Black & Decker BV9000 Leaf Eater (at Costco for $79.00) verses buying the $300.00 Yarkworks 'chipper' for $199.00 at Cdn Tire. You can make alot more 'mulch' with leaves than you can with sticks & cones......in way less time. (and keep that little extra money to put towards that self propelled lawn monster that's on sale now at Home Depot or towards a new snow blowing machine you know you really really want and just haven't decided on which monster model you simply must have.) Costco's Black & Decker Leaf Eater comes with the attachments for blowing, vaccuming, shredding, over the shoulder bagging and added value at Costco is that it also includes the $30.00 garbage bin collection system, and an extention cord all for $79.00 - BV9000 is the model # - nice and light weight. Laurie, I love that rose! I'm putting 'Scentsational' on my list as a definite "must have". DH liked it, too. We don't have any roses yet. I just want a couple, maybe 3 and I love the "swirl" effect on that one. I, also, am a sucker for stripes and varigations in flowers. All of you are totally convincing me that I have to plant some other lilies. I love my orientals but they don't seem to have as many to choose from as some of the other species. I planted 'Casablanca' and 'Stargazer' this spring and the tops froze. However, I accidently dug a bulb up the other day and it was very healthy with a great set of roots. Maybe there is hope for them for next year. Lots of mulch this winter. Gillian, your photos are terrific. Did you notice the pollen that is showing, with great clarity, on the gazania? Steve, I have to lead a field trip that day so I probably can't make it. Would you do me a favor and let people know that if they want to take some cuttings from the salvias at Rancocas Nature Center they can. If anyone asks they should say that Ward says it's OK. As the gardens there evolve and there is more and better variety I'm hoping a tradition of taking cuttings will develop, ideally on the day you have your plant swap, if that's alright with you.

NHSuzanne~ (((((((((HUGS and DOUBLE HUGS)))))) Ouch! That kind of situation hurts! Even tho' they may not have meant any harm! The first thing that came to my mind was the same thing Raeanne wrote. We have a group of 4 gal pals here and when we do something in groups of 2 or 3, we rarely share- it spares hurt feelings. Sometimes I'm the one left out, but we still love each other. It just works out that way. The second thing I thought was: Have you offered to sell Casey to Linda with a payment schedule? If you're going to consider selling Casey or get another rider if Linda stops riding her, why not work out a deal? Obviously, Linda cares a great deal for Casey and has had a year-long relationship that's good for you, her, and the mare. Linda seems to be acting as though she wants her "own" horse; a reasonable deal that you may be able to facilitate if it can be worked out in a memorialized agreement. The other, third thing I hate to mention, but will stick my neck out here anyway. Maybe the 'other' gal pal has a less strong connection with animals than yours and Linda can look at the horse and get a feel for it better by herself. You are very good with animals and sometimes, I'm certain, they are rather drawn to you. Linda may feel like she needs to be alone with the horse to see if she gets the right fit going. Who knows? But it's another idea. Why not buzz Linda and talk to her about it over a tea? It'd be worth it to clear the air before the road trip. She may feel trapped if you decide to wait until the car ride to bring it up. Again, ((((HUGS)))) and I hope the answer comes to you. My clay mask went to the kiln today, so I'll see it next week. I am starting on a terra cotta sculpture of a very muscle-bound man in a kneeling position at a prayer bench-naked and crying. I don't know why I'm doing this particular sculpture, but that's what happened when I started fashioning the clay. Everyone in the class thinks I'm wiggy or something. Ah, well, what else is new? Ok, We have about a dozen people coming so for.
Several others just coming to walk around the yard.
I'll have plants, but be sure to bring some baggies
or a bucket to put cuttings in.
'cause some of these plants really need cut back.

As for food, bring what ever you want.
I can make sandwiches.

There's no parking on my street,
but there's a divided street across from me.
You can park there.

What I'm looking for is a dwarf yellow poinciana
and an everbearing mulberry.
And
Green leopard frogs? --
I lost my whole colony in the freeze.

Cheryl- What is 'everbearing mulberry' ? never heard of it... I have the regular mulberry and can bring cuttings...let me know if you want some....... also I'll bring 5 or 6 chairs and have loads of plastic Publix bags if you need them... how far away is the street for parking ? thanx, sally

I wish someone in this neighborhood would do something like this. REALLY sounds like a good time!! I would, but we are just getting started gardening and wouldn't have much to share.

Sharbear - Florida leopard frogs.
Cute frogs. They're a 2-3" frog with green
and dark green skin. Leopardy-looking.
Mine must of froze. I have seen one all summer.
And Sally, the mulberry is a shrub/small tree,
small 1" berries.
Bears fruit several times a year.
I should break down and buy one off Charley Crowley.

Yeah! chairs! We'll need them.
As for food,anything you want to bring.
I bought plates, napkins and silverware today.

Parking is just across the street.
We have a grassy medium that runs 4 blooks long.
I'm at the beginning

I'm at the end depending which way you are coming!

I've gotten several people asking if they can
bring yards item to trade.
That's fine with me.

Doh! I just gave away all the little extra veggie seedlings I didn't use in my garden to a girlfriend! I'd still like to come...I have some little peat pot of lobelia and alyssun I was trying to baby through until the weather cooled down that I can trade with. :) Can you send an address? tinael01@hotmail.com

My DIL is coming also, can't wait !! I have maybe 15 Papaya ready to eat I'll bring, also dozens of different plants from cuttings and they are getting big now, I started them 2 months ago... also 5-6 chairs, some peanuts, some Cashews, Cheez-it, and other finger-food.. also 2 huge bags of Publix grocery-bags.... also extras like paper-plates and bowls and napkins and paper-towels....... if anyone wants something else let me know and I'm glad to bring it.... see ya'1 there ! !... sally

I'm sorry, I know it's a busy weekend!
We still have quite a few coming to the swap.
And we have some just coming to see the yard.
I'm making sloppy joes and probably a desert.
It's just nice to get together and
swap plant stories and eat!
