My sad, sad lacunosa

I posted a while ago about my lacunosa. I took cuttings and put them in perlite, in a bag, in it's usual spot in the shaded window where the plant had thrived before. Of the 5 or 6 cuttings, there are two left that are green. The rest turned yellow, leaves and stem both, so I took them out. The remaining two green leaved sprigs look good, color might be a bit greener too, but I'm not sure.

I noticed that when I opened the bag, there is a smell of ammonia, and that bothers me. I know that it is a component of fertilizer, but should I smell it this strongly? The perlite has Miracle Grow in it, and I have spritzed the cuttings with Eleanor's VF-11 once.
