What to do on New Years Eve

Happy New Year everyone!

We just discovered the best way to spend this evening. Eat leftovers (no cooking), get a bottle of Italian bubblie and watch Phantom of the Opera on the Blue Ray. Awesome! We both really enjoyed it! This musical and the bubbles went very well together. Hope everyone else had as much fun!

Hi Beachlily! That is exactly our favorite thing to do as well! Even down to our favorite movie (what girl doesn't just love Gerard Butler as the Phantom anyway..YUMMIE!) I even purchased the daylily "Phantom of the Opera" this year - will post it when it blooms this spring! Happy New Year! Chris and Rusty in CA

Chris, it really surprised me that my husband enjoyed it! The music is wonderful and the acting was very good. Yes, Gerard Butler is a very sympathetic villain!

I didn't know there was a dl with that name. Too bad its SEV.

Ours was utterly quiet, although not unpleasant :). Both kids were off doing their own NYE celebration so the house was nice and calm. We ate dinner, chatted, then he went to sleep early and I read for awhile. Boring? Maybe but also a moment to cherish being secure in our lives and with so much for which to be grateful. We will head south on Wednesday. Probably come home on Sunday. Then again we may stay longer. We never know once we get there. I will take my sewing machine and do some sewing for the grandaughters for summer. Never to early to get started. Happy New Years to all. Stay safe in your travels... Susie

Back in the good old days, we always had a NYE party, either at our house or at a friend's. It was always the same "social circle" of friends. Played games, had great food, no alcohol. Stayed up to watch the ball drop, get our kiss, and sing Auld Lang Syne. Five of that group have passed on now, and most of us remaining have health problems of some kind. So I will be home alone, but I am a night person and always stay up to watch the ball drop. Earlier in the day I will be making Black-Eyed Pea soup. Gotta have BEPs for New Year's Day. I was given the recipe last year by a new friend and I really like it. Makes a lot, so I put some in containers in the freezer for later. Sue

I'm off to the First Night celebration in Monterey. One of my favorite bands is going to play this year. Don't know how well I'll do with my hearing out in one ear but I'm going anyway. I used to hate traditional News Year Eve celebrations. I'd have to be running a fever to miss First Night. First Nights are held throughout the country. Oh, I'm with you on the leftovers and bubbly but its much more important to keep my two 4yo's occupied with the TV so I can shop the LA and gab on this forum!

I think they are on cartoon #3 since dinner and I won 4 seed auctions today... since watching Green Eggs & Ham show ds has learned the words so he can "recite-read" the book.... win/win all around.

We are spending New Year's Eve with our grown children. After making eggnog from an old family recipe handed down years ago from my beloved father, we will be watching movies and munching on snacks. Being together with our children is the very best way for us to spend New Year's Eve.

Happy New Year to all,
I am glad to see me and DH are not alone in spending the evening at home. I did cook our fave, tacos and had pudding for desert. Watched the movie Memory with Ann Margaret enjoyed it very much DH fall a sleep on the couch LOL.

LOL..sounds like we are all VERY similar in the way we choose to celebrate. Since I love the solitude of the garden and talking to flowers - I despise large crowds. We have always chosen to stay home and celebrate quietly. Leftovers for us too -- watched a movie and then scanned through all of the New Years Eve shows - stopping when something caught our attention. We live in the country so even though fireworks are illegal in GA - you can always step out either door and see a nice show. Dogs hate it but we enjoy our celebration
