2 plant ids please!

I got these two plants at Tropiflora's sale this past weekend and the vendor seemed a bit dim...didn't know the names and no tags! I usually don't buy if that's the case, but...couldn't resist.

This first one is loaded with blooms

Here's a close up

this next one has only one beginning bloom - here it is and I apologize for the lack of clarity on the pic

Here's a shot of the whole plant = bugs have obviously done some damage

It was called a Pink Candy which I tried to find on Google and the closest I could find was a gesnariad type. Maybe it will be easier to id when the blooms come out.

Hi Hester!

I don't know the first one, but it sure is pretty.

I think the second one is dianthera nodosa. I had this plant and eventually had to dig it out. If I got it again, I would definitely put it in a pot where it won't root everywhere it touches the ground. I does also self sow. It is really pretty in part shade and flowers in flushes during all the warm months. Very pretty plant, but needs to be controlled. Mine got out and became a gnarly mess because I let it go. I think you'll really like it though.

The first one is some sort of lespedeza, probably Shrubby Lespedeza from the way its stems look. Very easy to grow and puts out lots of seeds. Some lespedezas are invasives in FL, but some are listed as safe to grow. Hopefully, that's what you have.

I hope it isn't catalpas..as I said, I started this inside over winter. I don't think it blew into my house, lol. Also, we don't have any in the immediate area for a seed to blow..and I hope there werent any squirrels or birds in my house, lol. I don't know what kind of clerodendron seeds I even had..all I know is this looks nothings like the other clero's or the durantas that I started from seed over the winter. But the leaves look similar to some clero pix I was looking at when I googled. When and if this thing ever gets blooms to help ID it, if you want, I'll let you know. Thank you so much Chris! Daniella

AKA Raspberry and Bachelor's Buttons. (Blackberries, Raspberries, and Dewberries are all species of Rubus; that one looks like a Raspberry to me. Either Black or Red, they're not ripe enough in that picture to tell which. Yummy.) WW

Many thanks jay_6a, I now have an id. I am so looking forward to seeing these lovely blue flowers as I have never grown this plant before. I thought these plants were the same when they were younger, but as you can see they are very different. So I posted them on this website. Yes, I do live in a tropical climate and plants grow very easy here. Unfortunately we are on water restrictions, so keeping up the water is extremely difficult as we have had no rain for quite a while now. I bought a Rhodanthe a couple of years ago. I agree, it is a very nice plant. but somehow I murdered it, I think I killed it with to much kindness, which I tend to do at times. I love playing in my garden and I grow quite a few plants from seeds and cuttings. Here is a couple more photos for you. Mary thanks once again.

They are both pretty. I've never seen or heard of either one. Sounds like it was a huge sale. Tropiflora sounds kinda familiar. I'm not allowed to go to plant sales anymore! I spend too much and then I'm overwhelmed when I get them all home. One here and there works out better for me.

Hester: I was cruising through other Garden Web forums and came across the attached thread. Even though this may not be the same variety, I immediately thought of you and your new purchase. Take a look at what it can look like all grown up. Wow, what a beauty!

From having seen pictures of what you've accomplished in your garden, I know you'll site your new purchase so it looks wonderful!

Holy smokes, June - those are some pictures! I will fall over in a dead faint in the middle of my garden if my plant ever looks like that!
And I now have to really think about where to put it - a perennial problem in my small yard (s). Ah well, it's a fun problem to have.
