Old Crock Pickle Recipe Safe?

Hello all. I'm hoping someone can help me with a recipe handed down from my mother and grandmother. It is called Few at a Time Pickles. The recipe is below. It is a sweet pickle...but unlike anything you will ever taste. You either love them, or don't. I do!!! My question is that I would assume this is an unsafe recipe and would need to be put into hot water bath. Mom used to put in canning jars with rubber ring seals and did not process. How long of processing time? Any other comments? Thank you all in advance. Amy

Few at A Time Pickles

1 gallon cider vinegar

1 cup dry mustard

1 chunk alum

1 cup salt

1 cup whole mixed spices

1 peck small (gerkin) pickles

Mix vinegar, etc., pour into crock, add alum. Wash pickles, dry each well. Add pickles and cover with plate to weight. Add 2/3 cup sugar each day. Stir after each additional cup is added. Add sugar for approximately 1-1/2 weeks, or until reach taste desired.
