Well, all I can say is... bring on those blue eyes because these are stunning. Love, love, love BLUE EYED BUTTERFLY. I like BLUE EYED BLONDE just because I am one, but it sure doesn't look blue. I guess it's one of those recessive genes:)

I know they say blue to identify a lot of flowers, but most look purple to me. I guess it's no different for daylilies.

Nice photos Julie. I got BEB this year but no blooms and a weak plant so if it survives the winter, perhaps I'll see a bloom next year.

You would think people might want to save some names with the word blue in them for when there are actually are blue daylilies. None of those look blue to me, still pretty but not blue.

I'm very good with registered names & who the hybridizer is with a lot of them, but when it comes to the 'Blue Eyed' named ones, I get all messed up...too many of them that they blur together.

Blue Eyed Bandit looks the closest to blue (bluish, grayish, lavender) on my monitor. The rest look straight up burgundy or purple to me.

Well, I'm not sure these are Blue-eyed but I like Blue-eyed
Bandit and Blue-eyed Butterfly.

Actually, all of them are pretty.

I quite agree - most of these with the name "blue eyed" really look shades of lavender or purple. But there are quite a few that really do look close to blue. Note that I always shoot these early AM. A big tree has been taken down in the back so some of these will get no AM shade next year. Their eyes may not look as "blue!"

Sorry your Blue- eyed butterfly isn't doing well for you, Julia. I grow that one over here in the UK and I am pleased to say it grows strongly for me here in Britain and blooms well. Give it a little more time and it will probably pick up--it is one of the lambertson cultivars that seem to do particularly well over here in our less than ideal growing conditions for daylilies (i.e permanently cold and wet---just kidding) :-))

Dan Trimmer came and spoke to my Daylily Club last fall and afterward, I won an auction for a fan of his 'Blue Eyed Angel'. Over the winter in a pot, that fan has become five fans, so even if it's not the bluest, it has good vigor! And Dan is one of the best speakers too, imo! Now I need to get it planted so I will have lots of flowers this season!

Hi Nikki: BEB was a plant I bought from an auction seller who is now off my future "buy from list". It arrived in the spring, didn't grow at all all summer and looked like it was ready to keel over. I can only hope it made it through this winter and we shall see in a few weeks.
Too bad as I really wanted that one.

Lesson learned.

I would have agreed 100% that dips have the edge here, but then I saw seedlings like this (Pat Stamile) in full sun - large flowered tets that look this blue! ( This has, I think, now been registered as FUNKY BLUES, a 2010 intro.)
