BLUE EYED BUTTERFLY performs well here! I can't even remember how long it has been here - 7 or 8 years, at least. It is a hardy, no fuss, plant. I can't tell you how a SEV would perform in Florida, though. It does well here despite being planted in part shade and not the best planting spot. Would probably do even better in full sun!

There are so many "white," blue-eyed cultivars out there, but this one really stands out for me. The patterned eye makes it special.

My only quibble would be the plant's increase, which has been adequate but not great. Some Lambertsons just haven't performed well this far north, so it could just be my climate. I would think it would thrive in Florida.

I have this one here in the cold north of England, it flowered well last summer in a (very) large container despite it only having been planted the previous autumn.
It has a good reputation here in the UK.

It has also survived the very cold winter we just had --it is a really lovely plant. I think the plant was bred in Florida anyway (unless Mr Lambertson bred it elsewhere and then moved to Florida?) so should do well.

Thank you so much everyone. Would you say it's more of a cream or white? Or is it light pink? Floota's picture made it look like it's light pink on the outside. I think I will get at least one, even though it's a bit more than I plan on spending on the others.

Blue-eyed Butterfly is my very favorite daylily. I wanted it for years and waited for the price to come down. I got a large clump from Curt Hanson (who lives nearby) three years ago. It has increased really well and gets so many buds that it takes me time to snap off all the spent flowers each day. If I could only have one daylily - this would be it.

I noticed the pink tinge to Floota's photo, too, while Jackie's photos show it to be more cream/yellow. Of the daylilies I've grown with this color combination, BEB and Mokan Butterfly are definitely the "whitest." I sent Alice Lambertson and Isle of Dreams to live elsewhere because they bloomed less white for me.

Not totally sure, but my pic was taken in fairly heavy shade as opposed to sun. That could have made some of the highlights show up. That's how it looks here - it grows in about half shade.

I see some that look more white, some more yellowy or cream. What would you describe it as? Maximus's picture looks more white. I am trying to decide what color daylilies to plant them near. It is cream here in England--I also grow Mokan Butterfly which is also very beautiful and that is the whiter of the two here. I think we equate to about zones 7-8ish in Britain if that helps as we have a generally quite temperate climate. It stayed evergreen over the winter here. (Although ALL my daylilies except Mauna Loa did
so maybe that's not much help!)

I guess we all agree! I also have Mokan Butterfly and it's definitely whiter than BEB. It's a beautiful daylily as well, but I prefer BEB.

I'm in zone 5/6 here in Northeast Ohio. All of my daylilies die back each year and most of the time are buried in snow. I can still see the tops of the crown when the snow melts and they begin to show green growth in March.

BEB is cream and purple here (not blue - non of mine show real blue except Dragon Dreams), but of course they all look different depending on the time of day. I usually shoot in the early morning and late evening. Early morning sun seems to have a golden hue and late evening always has a rosy one.

Jackie-o what is the blueish green plant with the spiked globes?

Goatster that's eryngium or sea holly.

I would say the petal color is a light cream with yellow highlights most of the time. After cooler nights there may be some pink highlights. It does look whiter in the shade, and more yellow in the sun. It has been a great rebloomer here over the years.

Also semievergreens in your climate will probably have some foliage all year, but the leaves will die back some after cold snaps.

The yellowy color you show would look fine. But creamy (more beige) would not look well in most of my beds. If it has more shade are you saying it will look less beige? Also, Jackie O's B.E.B.s look really big. But I don't know how many plants she has there. How much room should I allow for each B.e.b. plant? Thanks.

Missy - I was taking about when the photographs are taken. Photographs taken in the shade make it look near whie. Photographs taken in direct sun have it looking more yellow. I'm sure Jackie's plant took several years to become that large a clump. All daylilies should be planted at least 18 inches apart.

Mixed combinations with different colors and textures is exactly what I want to do with daylilies. My garden is already fifteen years old with mature trees and shrubs but I only had Stella until last year....

I grow lots of stuff that doesn't grow in my zone. Plants don't read the zone labels....I won't spend a lot of money on zone "denial" plants but I do grow them....
