Opinions on Cutting Butterfly Bushes Now?

I tend a balcony garden for my employer in downtown Baltimore, MD (z7), with 2 'Ellen's Blue' butterfly bushes. 'Ellen' has gotten a little taller than I planned, and pretty much blocks our view of the asters ('October Skies'), which are the finale of the season. Last year, I did nothing about it, and no one complained. However, this year, we are having some very important clients in town in early October and I'd really like to have the fall show actually show. The built-in concrete balcony beds (2 feet deep) face the National Aquarium, the World Trade Center, and the Inner Harbor with a great southern exposure; the balcony itself acts as a heat trap; we are on the 10th floor, so even get heat from below. I don't think the soil even freezes very much, and last year, the bushes kept much of their foliage. I know they should be cut back in the spring--my concern is that I will jeopardize them. Does this seem too risky, or perhaps worth the risk? Thanks for the input!
