Doing the Lily Auction Happy Dance

Doing the happy dance. Between last night and this morning, I got two

great daylilies on the LA for spring.

Last night I got PARANORMAL EXPERIENCE by Benz and this morning LOTUS

POSITION by Rice. PARANORMAL EXPERIENCE will be my third Benz intro as

I have BARNEY here already and also was able to buy JANETS MAGIC by

Benz the other week on the LA. And LOTUS POSITION is one of the RICE

intros I have really been wanting as its just so striking. But its so

expensive on the Rices website, $200.00 for a single fan. So I was

really happy when I saw it and was able to get LOTUS POSITION for

spring.

Going to be a busy bee come spring.

You're so lucky! I really can't afford these intros in Canada.

I tried once. I paid a pretty penny for John Peat. It's the only daylily that ever died on me; I planted it in the fall, and it never showed up the following spring. So I'm really burnt and won't repeat the experience.

On the other hand, I've had really good fortune with seeds. While some crosses seem to be more cold-sensitive, at least I get a few survivors.

I hope you'll be posting photographs!

Just ask anyone here at the forum. I post pictures and more pictures and more pictures come bloom season. And next year I will have more daylilies than ever to take pictures of.

Oh,You have reason to be dancing away, to have a expensive daylily to make it and come back. I have Asiatic Lillies thats 2 foot high and loaded with buds already..And I have roses blooming that dont have black spot on them yet. Usually they have Black spot on them before I see one bloom and I do spray them for it, too.This first flush looks better then they ever have and have bigger blooms, too. Jean

I also "won" three from Bonnie on the LA--Sunny Intervals, Lillian's Crazy Arms and Stealth Bomber. Then I decided I needed more, so I ordered from the summer sale--Ada May Musick, Katherine Caldwell, Springfield Clan, Stargate Portal and Wild and Wonderful. I had to get Stargate Portal after I saw the beautiful pictures Celeste posted of it. Wild and Wonderful is listed as Sold Out, but Bonnie went out and checked and said she had one DF she could sell to me. She is just so accommodating, a great person to deal with. I have not had any bad experiences on the lily auction. All plants were healthy and have done well. Some were bigger than others when they arrived but you have to factor in the location it came from and the normal size of the plant. Sometimes the size of the fans does not mean less vigor. I purchased a double fan of Double Donnie this Spring. They were healthy fans and average size. I got 3 scapes of blooms and then it rebloomed. If that's the first year I can't wait to see it as it matures. Some of the ones that stick out as super to deal with were Blueridge, Kendaylily, Southwestgarden, Penny, Jimkadesigns. I will definitely order from LA again. My only less than stellar experience ordering DL's was not on the LA but rather a seller that I heard good things about here. The prices in the catalog were really good. You know what they say "If it seems too good to be true it usually is." The plants when they arrived were very, very small. Definitely not blooming size fans. The most expensive of the bunch died from crown rot. I hate to complain so I did not contact the seller. I just won't place another order. If it had been a problem with one plant out of the bunch I would have figured it was a fluke. Since all of the plants were very small I know now that's not where I want to spend my money. I will stick with the LA and our local sellers.

I once had a few dozez tall bearded iris, they are just the best cut flowers I can think of, just huge , wonderful, blooms. (though I never really like iris fragrance, its reminds me of cat pee) but I just plant el cheapos now, sometimes put a small order ever few years for a handful, they will all eventually die out due to the borers. So I will not invest that much time or money in them. In regards to paypal, Ive never experienced any issues with online payments with them. BTW you can set up a online bank with a fdic insured bank (many of them are just branches of thier physical building) and transfer small amounts into it to cover what you want. Then also set up a paypal "only" email account as well. This will take about a couple hours, but it puts lots of walls in front of someone trying to get information from you. Truth be told, more poeple will be "scammed" into giving thier money away then anyone ever hacking into an account and finding information. Silverkelt

Well, I have no idea what this daylily looks like, so can't wait to see them gorgeous pictures this spring.Looks like 4 more news ones coming for us to see.

I am happy for you. You seem to be collecting quite a bit of work for spring! I too really can't wait to see your pictures next year. You have so many beauties coming it boggles the mind... and your collection was already astounding.

The RICES DO send more than one fan MOST of the time. They post it that way so no one will be disapointed ---

I wish all sellers would send the quality iI have received from the RICES and healthy too--just check out their feed back on DL AUCTION---

I am doing a bit of a happy dance myself. I just picked up Loaves and Fishes. That is my sixth Emmerich daylily.

Edeward- I think LOAVES AND FISHES is just a stunner. You should love it. I am trying to be good on the LA, which means I am trying to stay away!!!!!

I had wondered if Annette Rice was going to put LOTUS POSITION up for Auction on the LA, in fact I asked but did not get an answer. So when I saw it listed elsewhere (Fishman, Herbie Phelps) thats were I bought it. I got two fans so I did good but now that I bought it, Annette FINIALLY put one up on the LA for sale. Figgures!

Rita, you are being a bad, bad girl over there on the LA! I checked it out yesterday, and BOY did I have to restrain myself. There are a few up for auction on my most wanted list, but I just can't do it until I 'till another bed! I LOVE Lotus Position, so glad you will get to see its beauty in your yard. Congrats...

I have not been doing a very good job of staying away from the LA this year. Last winter I did not care, I did not even go look. This year already lots of LA ourchases for spring.
