Question about weights and measurements

I know they say there's no such thing as a stupid question, but this one just might be. If I follow a sauce or soup recipe that calls for "so many" pounds of tomatoes (that you then put through a food strainer), and I decide ahead of time to core them and freeze them first, have I screwed up the proportions of the recipe? And then would I weigh them before they defrost and lose water to be the most accurate? I'm just trying to get this right.
