Can I see more long shots of your gardens?

I so much want to learn by seeing the overall gardens. I enjoy seeing the pictures of plants and flowers but I would also LOVE to see more of the whole composition. I'm not too good at this Florida Gardening thing (even though I've been in Florida 10 years) and I would love to see combinations of plants and different settings.

Are there any threads that are more picture heavy that you could send me to? Or even other resources for residential Florida garden photos?

Ok chinchette on one condition.
How bout you update YOUR PAGE so we can see more about you,where and what you garden,animals volunteering stuff.
If you are puzzled as to what to put on
YOUR PAGE just check out some other gardener's pages
(in parenthesis in red). And NO,,, nothing highly personal needs to go there.
It is fun and we feel like we have a friend.
That goes for all of us really,check your page often and update it.

Great idea chinchette. Too often books and articles about Florida gardening seem to only show pictures of individual flowers or plants. I would enjoy seeing some photos of plant combinations and gardens too. Great way to get design ideas.

Eden-after the damage that was thrown your way I'm glad you have pics of how your garden looked previously. I had just viewed this thread a few hours before the damage and was so proud of what you'd done. I'm thankful that I had the honor to actually stand in your garden when the idylls visited. Since then it has changed so much and is even more beautiful! It will be again. These pics give you a blueprint for the future and will be likely very helpful. Marg - Yes primroses do like part shade the best. They fry if they get too much sun. Mine come back every year after the winter is over. The leaves are visible and stay green throughout the winter season and when spring comes the leaves green up and a new growth of leaves come up through the middle. Most of mine only flower in spring but I do have a few that re-flower in Fall (my blue-purple one always does). They would be a perfect companion for hostas, in fact I actually have a few hostas in with 5 or 6 primroses in my back shade garden and they do very well there. I only know the name of one of the primroses in my pictures. The double pink one is called "Sue Jervis". I only know that as the people that lived here before left the tag. That white one you like and the red one are huge in size and look like they were part of the original plantings when the garden was first put in. I wish I knew the names of them so I could tell you but I'm pretty sure the red one is common. It's just a red single with a yellow centre and a white edging around the petals. I've seen a lot like this at many garden centres, even Walmart had them last summer. The white one is a double and I've never seen another one like it anywhere but I don't think it would be hard to get. I'd just ask for a double white primrose and this is the one you'll probably get. If you do decide to try them, I don't think you'll be disappointed! Jason

Thanks for the lovely tour, Rita! You have made excellent use of your "average size suburban lot." I bet you don't have much grass to mow! It's great that you can screen your view from the neighbors.....makes for a nice private place to enjoy your garden. Thanks for sharing, Julie

Mark - No, I have not planted the ragoon creeper yet. I haven't quite figured out where I want to put it. The other plant that you gave me that produces clusters of blue flowers is sending up a couple more flower stalks. This plant reminds me of a super dwarf Lily-of-the--Nile. Besides, I have been spending a LOT of time working in the vegetable garden. I will post pics of that in the near future. Anna - Thank you very much for the compliments. I do enjoy strong colors too. I find colorful foliage easier to deal with in the hot summer...no deadheading. Actually I have another planted area that I could show you but it's not quite as eye catching. Voila, my profile is updated. To further introduce myself, hi, I'm Chinchette. I lurk here hoping some of your beautiful gardens will rub off on me. I was a really great organic vegetable gardener as a teenager but that was in easy Connecticut and decades ago.

For some reason I buy only houses that have too much shade for vegetables except in the front yard, and that won't work in my sub-divsion, but maybe I will cheat a bit...some day.

I come here for inspiration and to learn. I can't be easily insulted and any advice is appreciated.

I was thinking about putting some pics up of my new garden since moving here to the Heartland and your request has motivated me.

Hey Chinchette, see that was fun huh?
My son lived in Clearwater and he and his wife attended Clearwater Christian College.I loved going across the state to visit him . We rode bicycles to Safety Harbor,garage saled and I loved that Christmas STORE and Paradise diner!!
Please don't be afraid to garden in the shade. The lettuce seem to really do fine in it as well as radish and onion.
I have sweet potato vine a couple roses, and other things that seem to be be thriving under the shade of a a tree. In fact my cuttings I start are especially happy in the shade but be sure to add all kinds of goodies to the soil or no amount of sunshine will help! Ill post a few of my albums and LONG shots too.

i need to climb up in a tree or on the roof to shoot the yard, always backing up into something else. plan???? that changes year to year... we have fun!

Hey, I could get into some lettuce and radishes. I didn't know they could grow in shade. But do you grow them in the ground or do you have to do raised beds? Oh, I just realized we are going to get that recycled water so I will have to make sure I have a station that does not get that water.
