Can't help ya, Tony. Mark uses the sand from the yard (mostly what he digs out when leveling the pathway) and it doesn't stick. Maybe I rinse it down a bit lower or something, but I've never had that problem.

We don't actually use "pavers" per se...at least not the types that I've seen for sale. We are using reclaimed road bricks which look to me to be much thicker. Perhaps that also factors in.

But my guess is, sooner or later, the sand between the pavers will get low enough that you won't be tracking it anywhere. Hang in there!

we have a large area of pavers. we never really had much of a problem with sand once they were installed. the guys who did it used a lot of water, and spent a long time with a hand broom, pushing the sand into the cracks.

Tony - you should not see any sand between the pavers. In this order - use a whisk type broom and hard sweep the pavers to both push the sand down and away, then use a hose on high pressure and continue your efforts until there is no visible sand. Your pavers must be as tight together as possible and should have been banged from the edge with a rubber mallet.

Thanks for the tips and your personal experience with the pavers. I still have to add a lot of sand here and there and then get it brushed out to the right level.

Beautiful, Tony! I love how you have combined colors and styles of pavers. Makes it so much more visually interesting! And the circular part is just gorgeous! Nice work.

Your sand will go away. Don't worry. Because we don't hard tamp the ground underneath, we leave ours filled to just below the top of the bricks, and let it settle in over time. We don't bang from the edge with a rubber mallet, either. Again, might be the difference in the type of brick we have used, or might just be a different style of laying them. But it has worked for us for years, so that's how Mark does it.

Whatever way you did it, it looks great! Nice job!

Tony, it took a couple weeks for me, but I refilled the cracks with sand after the settled the first time. A light misting spray with the hose does help to settle the sand.

Evelyn, now THATS a good idea. If DH has any leftover fertilizer, have him bring it on over.

You realize,YOUR pavers are what made us decide to finally do ours. Its because yours looks so good and perfect and will ALWAYS be better than ours in our mind and actuality.

I am actually heading out now to get MORE sand and will fill in the cracks a little more today and then brush the excess out. Thanks for letting me know it did take some time. I bet if it were raining it would help settle some and also help splash some back out. Once it all averages out, all will be fine.

Tony LQQING GOOOOD! We did tamp the sand/soil mix before settling the pavers, then we also tamped the pavers after brushing the first set of sand between them. We then used a large push broom with long bristles that got into the cracks to even up the sand below the paver line. Like Ricky said-you don't want to really see the sand between the pavers. Looks like you have a beautiful new space now!

Thanks everyone for the kind compliments.... It was a no-brainer to do after seeing the great pavers Evelyn has at her place. Evelyn and her DH did an outstanding job.

When the pool was still here, we had a wooden deck. We wanted something different and this will surely be it.

I can see already there will be a whole new set of maintenance and situations that will have to be dealt with as they occur.

I already see ants really interested in digging holes in the sand between the pavers. Looks like some boric acid may be needed to dust the sand.

I see a lot of twigs and leaves getting lodged tween the pavers too. Maybe I need to sprinkle more pre-emergant on the sand too. I did put it under the tamped base.

You can really feel the residual heat in the pavers long after the sun has gone down. This should be welcome in the cooler months.

I hope the list of things that are scarring me ends real soon!
