Saving and Finding Recipes; Clipping Posts to read later on.

With so many fairly new members wanting to locate recipes and tips and having difficulty, I've been wondering if they (and some of us oldies) know about the capability we have to CLIP POSTS AND MESSAGES for our own easy retrieval.

Whenever I read a discussion I want to refer to later, or I read a recipe that I'm anxious to keep, or just don't even have time to print out something ... I mark that message(s) so that I'm able to locate it later.

It's very easy: Do you see the pretty green leaves and the word CLIPPINGS in the top right of each message? See these words:

clip this post. email this post. what is this?

see most clipped and recent clippings

So when you read something of interest, all you have to do is click one of these options and the message (post) will be saved for you in your (My Page) area. There's no need to worry about printing it out right away -- it's saved for you on your page, waiting for you to refer to it later.

Maybe all of you know this, but I'm thinking that some of us don't, or some of us forget to use this tool. Anyhow, I hope this helps someone who hasn't learned how to do it, or has forgotten all about it.

I just save the entire thread to my hard drive; then I don't even have to go online to read it.

For those on an iPad, you can also take a screen capture, or picture of what is currently displaying in your screen, by pressing the Home and Power buttons briefly at the same time. You will hear a sound like a camera taking a picture, and your screen image will appear in your Photos.

Writersblock, I beg to differ with you, but Web Archive just doesn't cut it anymore. You mentioned "unless you want to use it for organizing". I think that organizing is the point. Evernote is an application but it's free. Once you've installed it a little Evernote icon is in your Toolbar. If you're on a page that you want you just click the icon and Evernote makes a new page with everything on it like Web Archive. Then it gets much better. The following is much, much harder to describe than to do. You can quickly Tag items with references that are important to you. Say that you want to keep a new file on Miele Dishwashers. There is a spot that says Tags. You type in Miele Dishwashers and Evernote automatically makes a folder for Miele Dishwashers. Anytime you want to link something to that folder you tag it Miele Dishwashers. You can even tag a page with a bunch of tags. Let's say that you want a General Folder for Miele but you want separate folders to show prices, places to buy, or whatever. You can have one web page referenced in several folders just by typing in a few words. It is really simple. Oh, and there are so many ways that you can view the things that you've saved. You just have to check it out to see. But there is one more thing that is really useful. You can access Evernote anywhere. If you use Web Archive you are stuck with finding that page on your computer. Evernote is an application that can be on your computer, your smart phone or your iPad, etc. you can find anything that you've kept anywhere. Plus it's a website so you don't even have to download the application to find things that you've already added. Anywhere there is a computer (Mac or PC) you can get to your stuff. And Evernote automatically syncs everything when you open the application to keep you up-to-date. I even put notes to myself in Evernote so I can have the info on my iphone when I want it. To be honest, I don't even use Evernote up to it's full potential. I do really basic stuff but for a big project like a Kitchen Remodel it's a huge help. Like jenswrens, I'm smitten. Thanks Kathy. I just found the forum this week and this will be very helpful. BTW, since you are from Sequim, do you have any great lavender recipes? I visited the Olympic Peninsula twice in the last two years and love it (it's a little different from SW Florida!).

Also, apparently you're only allowed to clip 50 posts. At least according to what the system told me. Guess I better get printing and filing. Because I'd rather not stop finding all the great recipes and advice!

I am just as BAD clipping on the GW as I am with written snippits of recipes all over the house, lol.

I blame it on my daughter being born now, almost 17 years ago, because I look at all the typed recipes in binders arranged in order in plastic sleeves from our catering and food manufacturing business that I typed before she was born and wonder what happened to me!
