Hi All! Slap Me Sassy gave me a lovely scape with 12 buds today if you can believe it! Last bloom for the season. Enjoy!

Very nice to see blooms this late in the year!! Thanks for sharing them... I am looking forward to a few more scapes, so heres hoping they make it before the frost!

Mike, VCR's very fragrant and smells just like a rose. Even with just this single bloom I can still detect faint whiff of it from a distance. I know a vendor in Oahu who sells VCR cutting for $16. If you want it, let me know and I'll be happy to pick one up for you when I'm there. Wow!! that Scentational is still there? I kinda wanted to get it last month but it wasn't on sale. $40 seems reasonable enough! :) Did you see that giant plumeria plant I found in the Asian market around here? Could it be a promising sign plumerias will soon be available in our state? LOL Kenny

That's odd about the rating. This rose is extremely healthy, and, as I said, bloomed three times since I planted it as a gallon size own-root in mid-March. And, from the first, the blooms were large and very scented. They don't even blow fast. I wonder if that is the same Halloween. I know there is another one that is a florist rose, but it is newer. Or, maybe they didn't like the unusual form in the sixties! (That doesn't fit with my concept of the sixties, anything unusual was "groovy"!) I must add that I do spray regularly. But, if a cultivar is very blackspot prone, I would still notice it, and I haven't seen any on Halloween. Actually, I have another one, Aalsmeer Gold, which I got from K&M last year. It is grafted on fortuniana. It has a low rating, but has performed beautifully. Makes you wonder about ratings. And, MargaretK, I have thought of you often as I planted my new fragrance bed. Like you, I just got tired of roses that look pretty, but have no scent at all. Come see my garden any time! You helped the whole thing get started three years ago!

Thanks Lesley and Kitty. Yes, I do appreciate all the wonderful caring people here on the Forum. You guys are all great! Well, we almost put Katie down yesterday, but just couldn't do it. The vet gave us some more diuretics to try and get the fluids out of her so she could breathe better. She hadn't eaten much for over a week, and we discovered why while we were at the vet's. We never really noticed her teeth were decaying. Apparently, she's had such rotten teeth and gums, that her teeth have all broken off. That's why she wasn't eating. We never gave her canned food before, but now that's all we'll be able to give her because she can't chew anything anymore. My husband was searching online all last night and we think maybe her gum disease may be what brought on the fluid buildup outside her lungs. If we would've been better "doggie parents" we could've caught it earlier and maybe she wouldn't have gotten sick. So everybody out there who has a dog.... please check their teeth often so your dog doesn't get sick from gum disease or infection. We never even thought about it. We always gave her the biscuit bones that are supposed to help keep the teeth clean, but obviously that wasn't enough. We failed her, unfortunately with our busy lives. My husband has decided we won't get another dog after she's gone. It's just too hard.

Just an old jar, filled with a Dollar Store eyeball candies and decorated with a sticker makes a nice Halloween dec, I think. I made my little ghost many, many years ago : I painted my witch at the same time, and also the scarecrow below in another pic: Light in our entrance foyer: Hutch in there with more books: My cousin's book, "Boo, Bunny!" always has a place of honor there. These Halloween farolitos are easy to make with an empty gallon milk jug. Leave the handle on it and, after decorating as a monster, scary face, a cat or whatever, fill with 2-3 inches of sand and insert a votive candle. Halloween "Ghost Eye" Tree centerpiece made by DD when she was younger: My favorite cat sits on top of our wine cab: Spook up any lamp with a bit of black cheese cloth that the Dollar Stores always seem to carry at this time of year. Draped around the top are just a couple DS necklaces. A nice, big spider is a fun addition. A Halloween quilt and wall hangings, all made for us by my very talented bestfriend, Dianna: Dining Room table centerpiece, which sits down at the end of the table during our meals: Thanks for letting me play here today, showing you my favorite Halloween decs. Lucky you to have a bloom this late in the season,and what a pretty one it is, too. I have one that has a scape and 5 buds making uo in it,Am hoping they open and I get to see the bloom,but was 31 degreesTuesday night.. BRRRR

I'm so excited, I have a scape on Bonnie Holley, I got as an extra from Goldcoast, about 3 weeks ago. I was so excited to get this one as an extra, they are so generous. It looks like it should bloom soon and the weather is nice here now. I put it right by the back door so I can bring it inside if necessary, its in a pot, as all mine are. I have never had anything bloom so late here.

Hey Dot,

I see you are getting very lucky having blooms this late in our part of the world! Just out of curiosity, which zone map are you using to have you listed as zone 8a in Ft. Worth? Everything I have seen still has my zip listed as 7b, yet plants are living through the winters here now that didn't use to, and are listed as zone 8a+. Just curious to see if they had actually officially rezoned it, and I had missed it. Lucky you, and hope to see pics of it when it blooms! Jan G.
