ronnies, I think I know where that is at, I will check that out later in the year. I went ahead and picked up a japanese maple from home depot, I decided to just let it got this year, and start with it next spring. I am also going to try to airlayer my moms on the spring aswell. While I was in michigan this summer I found an oak sapling (trunk is less than 1/2 inch). I dug it up, and have it in a 5 gallon bucket of the soil that it was growing in. I got it back home, and noticed the soil doesnt drain very well. Is next spring too soon to repot in some better soil, or should I wait another year??? I have had the tree here about a month and it seems to be doing pretty good with the rather high heat we have had hear so far. thanks in advance

Jean, I have a nice row of the Red Alert Lilies but not up there, they are in my driveway sideyard garden. The thing is compairing lilies to tulips is like compairing apples to oranges, they bloom at different times and just aren't the same thing. Kay, that is a lovely stand of those COME BACK tulips. I ordered them too as you might have noticed for the plateau. My thinking was that this was a very good spot for tulips that will reappear year after year. Plus I love the red coloring of them. Nancy, could that big red tulip you have that shows up year after year be RED EMPEROR? Emperor tulips are supposed to be early blooming and large. Emperor tulips come in red, yellow, white, orange and some other colors too. I have never grown them but intend to order the Van Engelen Special collection of 300 tulips. And I could just immagine 300 tulips planted in that driveway side yard garden of yours. It would look stunning. In zones 7 and lower, most winters will have enough cold weather to eliminate any rust that might occur. Use common sense and don't over protect your plants. Those in zones 8 and higher should be careful to buy rust resistant or very rust tolerant daylilies. Daylily rust is endemic to these zones and may come in on the wind. Buying from a rust free zone may not be a good choice, if you buy a plant that is susceptible to daylily rust. I think it is smarter to buy from someone in the south who can and will tell you if the plant is resistant, tolerant or susceptible to daylily rust. Ed

Hi Holly, This is not the best time to move them, but if you feel you need to, then I agree with the other posters. Those that have seed pods should not be moved or there is a good chance the plant will abort the pod. Check the pod/s each day or two and if the scape and pod turn brown or if the pod turns brown and starts to crack open on the end, it is time to harvest the pod. Take the pod inside to fully open, over something to catch escaping seeds. Good viable seeds should feel firm when gently squeezed. Good luck, Ed
