Hi, I only have 1 type of passiflora, an incaranta. But would love to try others. I would trade for a few different types of seeds for the plant or another plant? Thanks

Mine has not poked its head up yet either, but don't give up hope. I have had a year here or there where it hasn't shown up until June, which is around the corner. I won't give up hope until the 1st of July. Mine is P. 'Lavendar Lady', that I've had for 11 years. I have the species to plant out yet - P. incarnata - which is a native here in Oklahoma and very hardy. That looks like what you have, but it could be a hybrid of it. Sometimes the hybrids, depending on the cross parent, are not as hardy as the other species it has been crossed with. They are easily found at mail order retailers, but can be somewhat pricey. Sellers also offer seeds, but I don't recommend them, they are very difficult to germinate. Passiflora caerulea is also another hardy species, with white blooms, and one of her hybrids, 'Constance Elliott'. I grow my passion vines for the Gulf Fritillary butterflies. It is their larval host plant. If I don't have them this year because I don't have a passion vine that is large enough to support them, I will be disappointed for sure. I also grow another passion vine, P. lutea, which is also very hardy. It is not as rampant as most passion vines, and not nearly as ornamental. It has small yellow flowers. If you live in the city, you might find them locally at either TLC or Precure. Precure carries P. caerulea, and I believe I saw some of the purples at TLC at one time. If you are growing yours for the butterflies, though, don't buy the red flowering variety as it is toxic to them. Susan

Wish? Wait? Hope? Seriously if any of us knew how to increase the flowers on these plants they'd be a very rich individual. All I can suggest is make sure they're happy- enough water (but not too much!) enough sun (but not too much of that either!) and enough fertilizer.. But guess what.. Don't over-do that either. I've found these plants bloom when tehy want to. You can stop them blooming by exposing them to cold, as I've done not-on-purpose several times this year because of the strange weather, but there's no magic pill to get them blooming, or to get them to bloom more.

I agree with Karyn. As far as I understand, it would be unusual to get flowers/fruit in less than a year. So just be patient. If you don't want to wait, I'm sure if you call around some nursery in L.A. should carry plants, probably with flowers/fruit. If you don't want to buy a plant, I can give you some unrooted cuttings of P. edulis 'Nancy Garrison'. I bought a fairly small rooted cutting last summer and now I have a plant with more than 50 fruits on it. If you started a cutting now I think there's a good chance it would bloom/fruit next year, especially with your warmer winters. Cuttings are reasonably easy to root with bottom heat in my experience. I just remembered I can also take a cutting or two of my smaller P. edulis 'Frederick'. That one is supposed to have larger but less sweet fruit. That plant was also bought as a small cutting last year and bloomed a couple times last year but I didn't get decent sized fruit. It was set back this year by frost and snails, so no fruit yet. I bought my plants from Grassy Knoll. I would recommend them highly.
