Neighbors can be a pain?

Well I also have a story about lousy neighbors.

Several years ago I had a neighbor who is a gardener. She wanted vines on our mutual fence. So I propagated Carolina jasmine and honey suckle and planted them along the fence.

She sold her property to a really nice family who complimented the vines. He sold the property for big bucks.

The new owner has been there for about two years. He told me this morning from a distant that I need to trim the vines back for they are shading his pasture and that affects the growth of the grass for his horses. Then in a low voice I heard him say "or I'll use weed killer on them".

He is noisy (divorce) Womanizer. Fly's his Scottish flag

instead of our American flag.

I'm afraid he'll never sell for he really paid too much

for the property.

Gardeners are the best. I miss my old neighbors.

Vent away.. we have all had nieghbor problems at one time or another. They can really make your blood boil sometimes lol. He sounds like a real PIA. I've taken to wearing my ipod outside so I can ignore certain noisy nieghbors lately.

Awful! But two can play that game.
Is it a chain link fence? I hope so - then you could: Tell him (from a distance) that you were thinking of taking down the vine anyway, and planting nettles (and name some other cow enemies) in your yard. Of course, they might reseed in his yard but you're sure he can keep them down with the weed killer.

The foot and all the muscles/tendons around it can be a challenge to figure out.....unless you're a foot profession/physical therapist. You can have a pain at one end of your foot, and its caused from something at the other end (or even a shortened calf muscle). I fear you just haven't seen the right doctor yet. My experience with podiatrists has run the continuum from totally useless to absolutely a miracle worker......so don't give up hope. You just have to keep looking. I personally have found podiatrists to be much better than orthopedic docs. I don't know why. Don't give up. I spent quite a while in total pain, unable to hardly walk (with plantar fasciitis), and once I found the right podiatrist, he fixed it. I was finally pain free! It included a steroid injection to start with, and then custom inlays that I wore all day, every day. I eventually didn't need them anymore. You might also have to be on NSAIDS for awhile, if you can tolerate them. Good luck to you!

Everyone on our street gets along which is really fortunate. We watch each others houses, take trash when someone is on vacation. Heck, whenever there is a holiday we all figure who is home and who is not and join forces to help out. It is really nice. Each year we have a block party and it is next weekend. The only problem there has ever been is this one neighbor who is actually really, really nice. He for some reason just thinks he is the czar and in charge of everthing. He is always there to help but sometimes he is in the way. Like when we sold our boat at our yard sale (oh, when we have a sale he likes to stop by and say "what, another sale?", we only have one a year if at all). He came down and proceeded to speak with the buyer about how to use the boat, where to go, what to do, etc. You would think he was selling the boat. Our other neighbor came over too but he was helping us hook it up and assisted my dh with testing the motor. This guy just has an opinion about everything and instead of telling the homeowner he nags and nags the other neighbors about what he wishes the other owner would do. Or he will tell other to do the things he wants done. Today he was looking for pipe tape because one yard has a funky sprinkler head. And no, he did not ask the owner if he could fix it. So here is the update. Last night dh went to the czar, whos own truck was blocking the sidewalk because it is so long. Dh told him he might want to pull his truck in because it is violating parking laws and probably ADA laws. He told him that we got a ticket for our trailer and that someone in our court turned us in. Our neighbor asked why dh was telling him this. Dh told him it was because everyone thinks he did it. Guy says that is BS. Dh comes home. It was a nice evening and other neighbors started coming out to chat like we all do. This guy comes all the way to my neighbors house to pull her aside and tell her that we are mad at him. She had to answer the phone so she could not chat more. Then he goes back to chat with his direct neighbor, then another. Eventually he heads back to us. He says that he did not do it and since we "acused" him of doing this he is going to find out who did. I told him we did not acuse him at all. I told him that because of his past behavior, his current complaints made over the course of several days, his being in front of my house on phone an hour before ticket... it is simply guilt by association. I told him that maybe he did not do it, but we all have no other choice because of his constant medeling. He shouted something about how when he comes around the corner he is going to hit the trailer (it is no wider than his own truck). My dh blasted back telling him that if he would not fly around the corner he would not have a problem. That was when his wife walked by with her dogs on leash. She kept going. I told him he just needs to stop his behavior and knock it off. He left. We spoke with several others some more. What is really sad it that if he really did not do it, everyone thinks he did. Everyone said they just want him to knock it off. So.... this morning my dh is out front. The wife drives up to chat. She said she was sorry for the way her dh acted. She said she asked if he did it and he said no. (Isn't it interesting that his own wife had to ask if he did it?!) My dh explained why everyone thinks he did it and she said she knows he medels but that he does not like to get into fights with anyone. My dh told her that he may not like to fight but he is a #$@ stirer instead. If he has a problem he needs to tell the person, not tell everyone else. She totally understood where we are coming from. We told our immediate neighbor that we would feel bad if we found out he did not actually do it, and then have to apologize. But our apology would come with a note that he needs to change his behavior because that is why he is in this trouble to begin with. Know what she said? She said, "But we all know he did it!" I just laughed. As for this guy looking for pipe tape. He asked my son, who was playing outside, if we had any. Dh told me to take some over because that is what we would normally do. We are not going to start some war. We have to live here and are not going to let a medeling neighbor ruin it. We are going to live like always. And next time he does something I think we will all be more active about telling him to knock it off. As for the dog thing. His dog is a well trained, very sweet dog. She is old but the kids love her. But it does annoy everyone when she pees on our flowers and goes in our garages. So last night when my dh mentioned that this guy violates laws all the time, especially with his dog running around, hopefully he listened. It is so easy for a street to get into a fight and everyone not get along. I think we are all determined to be friends and I think with all of us staying on top of him he will stay in check. Sometimes it takes one family to stand up to get all the others to stand together. On a funny note, our direct neighbor's dog poops on our side of our shared grass area. We just flick it back to her side and laugh. She is a super neighgor and this is how we have decided to deal with it. We don't think she sees him do it, probably thinks it is amazing how he somehow only poops on her side. lol

I have had one bout of sciatica that came on suddenly and was incredibly painful-quoted the above insights because what has worked for me is Pilates. I was taking group lessons and when the trainer went out on her own I followed her. She is very good at getting me to move and stretch past what I would do on my own without straining or overdoing it; Pilates of course is also all about strengthening one's core muscles and I've not had any more sciatic problems. Thank goodness for that, it was one of the most excruciating pains I've ever experienced. Ann

EllenP123 , I have been mulling over what to post since I read the above last week. I am sure you did not intend it to be humerus but I laughed reading that you" went to bed 49 and woke up 100". I have been struggling with horrific leg pain for over two years. I daily think holy moly how in the world do people with chronic pain function.Although I have been dealing with my leg pain for months I am not going to categorized it as chronic. My first reaction to my leg pain was to see an ortho specialist who dx the leg pain as stress fractures since I had carried over 900 pieces of granite over a two week period. Yup I counted them. The M.D. gave me a few packets of celebrex that was given to him by the pharmaceutical sales rep. I told the Doctor I am allergic to Aleeve. Alleeve makes me swell and I gained five pounds after three doses. I was smart and had removed my wedding band . It took a good week to reduce the swelling since Alleve has a long half life. Those who are allergic to aleeve are recommended not to take celebrex. I questioned the Medical Doctor who assured me I was misinformed. I took one dose on the way home since the leg pain was horrific. Within two hours I was a mess. It felt as someone was squeezing my heart. I did not need to be hospitalized but monitored . I no longer take Motrin since this is a sister NSAID of celebrex and Aleeve. My point is there are some majorly hubris doctors out there who screw up at your expense. I have had a few nights where I cry cause the leg pain is horrible. No position soothes the ache . I have tried rest, aspirin, warm soaks, ice packs, massage therapy,accupuncture and a dose of darvocet . I came across a book a few years ago about how the body is aligned in two parts. While attempting to find a position to relieve the pain I massaged my toes, foot pad, achilles tendon, tibia ,fibula, knee,thigh, hip ,butt and lower back with a tennis ball. What I figured out is that the pain is in my knee area but when I massage the upper thigh and achilles the pain goes away. A few years a go I had tennis elbow from shoveling the driveway for five hours. When I massaged the shoulder blade and my pectoral muscle the elbow pain disappeared. Pain is not simple . One must identify the source. For me the pain is due to overused muscles and menopause. I am tiny but can llft 60 pounds with ease. If you gave me 62 lbs I balk. I think for some the pain we are experiencing is the lose of estrogen so our tendons get brittle. I too went to bed feeling great and awoke with the crippling pain. What i found that works is to take care of yourself. Take breaks when doing your chores. Swim. Stay active. Place down pillows under your hip and knees at night. Take calcium with magnesium DAILY eat bananas three times a week. The potassium helps with any cramps MAssage your legs from toes to butt with a rolling pin or tennis ball. Make sure you stretch the ham strings( the rear thigh leg muscles). So after two years of several medical visits, accupuncture treatments and masseuse visits for me I figured out what works for me. Some who go into menopause never experience leg pain whereas others are crippled. I was 45 when the periods stopped. My male ob gyn said this was impossible. Sorry but not everyone is a text book case. I have had some wonderful male physicians but at this point in my life I need someone who is informed on a women's life cycle. THe key is to enjoy life. Drink the coffee if it makes you feel good. You will need to experiment with your diet , and supplements. I found that black cohosh did squat. Eating the bananas and religiously taking my calcium with Mg helps. You are not alone. Pilates helped too!!!!!! My mind is racing since I need to get my chores done. A sip of wine at night helps some. For me a little rhum took the pain down a notch. My best solution is the stretcthing and staying active. I am still in pain at times but I can manage it.

Hi Felix,

How much shade could a vine cast? His animals probably appreciate the shade.

This just shows to go ya, you can pick your nose but not your neighbor.

At least his 10 year old unsupervised kid didn't set fire to the debris built up in your gutter with his leftover July 4th fireworks...

I was thinking to myself: Which will give me greater satisfaction? Paddling the boy in the street in front of his friends or beating his mother about the head while I berate her mothering skills...

I was so glad when that family moved.

The fence is field fence separating my long drive and his field. He has six acres and I have three. The vine shades the spot that he is concern only in the morning until 9 or 10 am.
So there is sun for over 7 or 8 hours. You can see how creepy he is.
Well he better learn to like flowers and shade because I have
planted Crape myrtles and bottlebrush all along the fence
a few feet away from the fence.They are growing nicely.
It will keep his foul language somewhat insulated and I will not see his peacock, ugly face.

Oh,Tony, that is also where I have planted two "Golden Rain
Tree", Drake elms,Pecan trees, Chinese chestnut trees and
several Pindo palms. I think is a little forest coming up.
Oh I think I'm feeling better.

I love horses and think no reason to take down the vine.Just mention if he poisons it you will be planting Lantana in its place.Lantana is a known TOXIC plant to horses(BUT DONT really do it PLEASE!!!!)

Goldenpond, I would never put an animal in harms way. As a matter of fact when he first moved in I pointed out to him several Oleanders that are very toxic to horses that the previous owner had planted. I introduced myself and offer any help that I could be as a neighbor.
Today I trimmed the vines as much as I could but I'm sure He'll have something negative to say. I want to be a good neighbor. I always introduce myself to new neighbors and often take a cake or something as a welcome gesture. I believe in being quiet. There is nothing nicer than walking
in your garden and hearing birds singing and children laughing in the distance. A family environment.
As you know the Bible say "be angry and sin not"
I have been angry and have done the right thing,vented LOL,
and now he is on his own. Miserable,lonely self with his
peacock walk and ugly face!LOL!

Poor dear Felix,

You will survive. You could try killing those neighbors with kindness, like offering them some of the stuff you normally compost that horses love. (Do you grown corn? Horses LOVE those cornstalks you eventually have to cut down, your leftover corncobs from dinner, I think all fruit and veggies, not just the fruit but the trimmings from the host plants.) Horses are HUGE vegetarians, and aren't picky. It's kind of fun to see what they like and don't like, but you're guaranteed that they'll like anything green that produces fruits or veggies (even melon rinds). And you could get free composted horse manure back, right?

I'm such a hypocrite! Here's how I dealt with my worst neighbor nightmare. An area media personality (a.m. radio, no big deal) bought the house next door to me as an income property. He rented to four (4!) twenty-one year old male brain scientists that had a party almost every night. I'm not talking about having a few fun friends over, there were 100 people next door several times a week. They parked their cars at the Circle K store and walked the few blocks to the big party.

I called the cops about the underage drinking. Public urination. Suspected drug dealing. (All regretably true.) Called the owner every time I was woken up at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 a.m., since he goes on air at 5:00 or 6:00 a.m. Called the owner when those kids were doing roosters in the backyard (drainfield) with their cool ATV's. (He had to replace the drainfield when he bought the house, because it was an "as is" sale from a dear neighbor.) None of that worked, except, well ... one drug bust went down. Yet those boys carried on after the drug bust.

Tension builds. Pressures rise. One weekday night they emptied beer bottles, cans, and who knows what else in their garbage bin, spilling many on the driveway and ground adjacent to me in the process, and WAKING ME UP AGAIN at 3:00 a.m.

I went outside in my nightgown at 3:00 a.m. and started picking up beer bottles and threw those beer bottles at partiers (didn't actually hit anyone, but came close, having lots of bottles and lots of partiers). I shouted at the top of my lungs in words they could understand (but you would certainly not approve of, Felix,from a man, much less a lady). Then I promised that the next time I would be out there with a 350 MAGNUM. (I don't actually have one, but isn't that what Clint E. used?)

They all moved to Tallahassee shortly after that. They may have been scared by the crazy lady, don't know.

So, yep, "Neighbors can be a pain?". Good luck with yours.

Tony, your quote about picking your neighbors cracked me up, as did all of the posts on this thread. Great post, Felix.

(And I'm kind of skizzy because the place next door is up for rent again.) Maybe they'll be good renters.
