First Hosta gift of the year!

Yep - my neighbor came over this afternoon with a nice little 2 eyed Lemon Lime for me. It was such a lovely surprise! She was at a garden center and knew I loved hostas and said this one called out to her that she should buy it for me.

BTW my neighbor is 77 and still tends her own yard - she is an inspiration!

So I am celebrating the happy hosta dance already!

Marsha--a wonderful idea! I've given H.Patriot to a friend that was having us over for a 4th of July cookout! I gave it to her potted with a little resin flag stuck in it! BTW--today is our 39th anniversary--hubby and I!!! :o) I think I should get one for each year--whaddya think?? hehehe

Ken...I feel like I already know you since I have ready so many of your posts. I'm in Jenison, Michigan, a bedroom community just SW of Grand Rapids. I'll have to ask my DH if they were in a greenhouse or outdoor nursery since I couldn't go with him. He got them in Portage (outside of Kalamazoo) at Romence Gardens. We've never bought from them before, usually buy locally or from Hallsons. I sent him down there to get Jurassic Park and had him pick up the other since the prices were reasonable. Thanks for your input, I'll have my DH haul them out. We keep close track of the weather since we own an ice cream store and staff our employees based on the weather, so I'll keep a close eye on White Feather.

Slight tangent: she has tried for *three* *years* to get a HS history teaching job??!! Oh dear, this has me very worried. My own daughter graduated in May with a history major and secondary teaching certification and her dream is to teach exactly that. She has been shocked and dismayed that although she has been diligently applying all over, even hand carrying personalized application packets directly to schools and has at least had several interviews, she hasn't gotten a job. School starts here a week from Monday and she is feeling devastated...I'm puzzled that the field seems so incredibly difficulty to enter. I didn't dream she wouldn't be hired somewhere by this point. She says once school starts, and she doesn't get a permanent position (which seems likely), she will try to substitute but at this point we're worried nobody will even deign to give her that chance. And she graduated cum laude from a well regarded university! Is it really that tough to get hired as a teacher? Seems all one hears is that the pay is bad, teachers are overworked, disrespected etc, leaving the profession in droves....so why is it impossible to get a job? Semi-facetious, but only semi. I wish I had neighbors like that. Just be careful where you dance, things are emerging in SE PA. Are you in the Phila. area?

My gifts are different. Since this is my first year "into" hostas, I am discovering plants I didn't realize I have. While transplanting overcrowded shrubs, I am finding small neglected plants. Its like treasure hunting.

Harry - I am about 30 min north of Philly not far from Tyler Park, so yea there is a lot starting to come up in my yard.

And ken - pppppppppppfffffffffffffffffttttttttttttthhhhhhhhhh! LOLOLOL!
I do have some plants that were dug last spring when it looked like I was going to move, then we ended up staying put. The good thing about being in this area is hostas DO overwinter well in pots and I can see 2 eyes on Ooh La La so I was going to split that one and send you a piece. There are a few more that if they come up with multiple eyes will be winging your way too..... and didn't your Mom ever tell you "Good things come to those who wait"?

Nice gift you got Alexa. I always enjoy those hosta gifts, when I walk by the plant, I always think good thoughts of the giver.

Ken....I tired to wing a plant your way awhile back, I guess you wanted at giant plant instead of a mini :)
