soxxxx - yes, I do enjoy looking at them and I've already got lots of seeds to try next year. pippi - thanks for the link. I am going to try winter sowing this winter. I think the columbine McKana seeds will do well with the ws. I saw it in the database for zone 7 as well! Renee- I sowed the moonflower seeds quite late - I think it was late May . And had flowers at the end of August. However, I dont detect any fragrance. They ARE beautiful though. But I like fragrant flowers. SO I am not sure I will grow them in the front yard again.. Maybe along the veggie garden fence in the backyard (where I had the cardinal flowers growing this year).

I was going to cut off all the old inflos from last year but that one turned into a branch. I'm not sure if inflo's from last season will give blooms or not. I'm wondering if I should be cutting them off or not. Other then this one that turned into a branch the other inflos are doing nothing so I'm not too sure on what to do. Can anyone shed some light on this topic for me?

What Julia said about Last Snowflake. Unless it starts off that yellow and fades to white?........Oh nice picture of Elegant Candy. Those blooms just lined up perfectly. All your daylilies are the ruffly type that I like. Nice selection. Look forward to seeing more of your collection.........Maryl

Great photos of some beautiful butterflies. I see we share an interest in cannas. I think they are so lovely. Yours looks so healthy, no rust. How do you do it? Can you tell me what is the name of the bush the eighth from the bottom? :o)

Hiii Izhar, ive seen your wonderful pics as well! How did your caladium hybridization go? Ive tried, and now ive got my first batch of seedlings.... very small yet.
Also Izhar, i see your zone is 11a? Im not sure what my zone is, but i know is 11 or higher! You are the only person here with a similar zone to me. :)

Hi Katkin, thanks yes i love butterflies. The bush is Strophanthus gratus (climbing oleander) and its a very very easy to grow plant. Cannas are one of my favourites..... ive even hybridized cannas. This canna is actually one of my hybrids.. well the best ive come up with so far!

Siam, what a lovely color of canna you made. I love them all but am especially fond of the dwarf ones.

Oh how funny, I have the climbing oleander on my fence, I didn't reconize it, I guess yours looked more like a bush to me. :o)

Love your garden!!! I especially love the colors--it's so nice to see such a variety and not have everything be just green. How did you get all your amaryllis to bloom at the same time? I have a bed of them but it seems I get only 3 or 4 to bloom at a time. I was definitely thinking of them all blooming around the same time for a big wow like yours when I initially planted them together. I'm not fond of beds of just green :) so I've been interplanting with more butterfly plants like porterweeds and milkweeds now.

Dear Siam, one out of my two attempts was success initially and the berries started forming but a squirrel ate it... I am surprised as these plants contain Calcium oxalate crystals which can cause severe irritation... I think the squirrel didn't knew that ...lol

My zone is a bit hotter... as my two brugs which I grew from seeds have nearly become dormant during this summer..

This is one of those forum at GW where nicest people do the posting... good to see you here..

you have some gorgeous butterflies! What is the name of the black&dark pink b-fly in the first photo?
Love your green malachite b-fly. I tried growing plants for it while living in Naples FL but it never showed up.

wanna run faster... hii! well most of those amaryllis i had recently bought, so they just bloomed but usually they arent in bloom like that, its just one here and there.

Trini, hiii so nice to meet a fellow trini here :). I just looked up that tree daisy... what a lovely plant!!! Does it grow true from seeds?

Denise hiiiii! , its a ruby spotted swallowtail and the caterpillars feed on citrus leaves. Its really beautiful!

Hi Hester, yep im also very interested to see what grows in florida, because im dying to try some eupatorium purpureum or fistulosum, and purple loosestrife.... but im not sure if it can grow in a tropical climate!

Welcome Siam. I generally post only intermittently, due to my slow gardening pace, and the amount of time it takes me to keep up with the yard. I absolutely loved that photo of the ruby spotted swallowtail. All the butterfly photos are gorgeous, and your plants and blooms as well. Never saw a climbing oleander before - it's a striking plant! Your cannas and amaryllis are gorgeous as well. Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos!
