Some photos for a chilly day

The dreaded cold has arrived and a chilly wind is blowing....brrr. For the first time in months I am forced to wear a sweater outdoors. The forecast calls for frost in some areas tonight, although probably not for me since I am at a higher elevation. The leaves are already beginning to change and not much left is blooming. So all this has me feeling very sad because it's goodbye to my flowers time (and dreading the snow time). So I decided the best way to confront sadness is to find something funny or happy to focus on. Here's some lighthearted pictures that I hope you all enjoy along with me!

daylily 'COUSIN SUZANNE' in wineglasses....

This daylily has an extended bloom time! You can pick them at night and enjoy them til morning since they stay

open...and they're fragrant too!

Truely angelic is beautiful, and I don't know why I haven't gotten Siloam David Kirchhoff yet, its so pretty. I love the photos, Ingrid! And I appreciate the kindness, but it's oddly premature for me in central NJ. While things are definitely getting colder, we're still riding the end of the "above average temperatures" predicted to last through December. I still have some -- even if just one or two -- blooms on the following: 'Abraham Darby' "Bermuda Spice" 'Chateau de Clos Vougeot' 'Clotilde Soupert' 'Cramoisi Superieur' 'Ducher' 'Golden Buddha' 'Happy Child' 'Lady Hillingdon' 'Louis Philippe' 'Marie Pavie' 'Mlle Blanche Lafitte' 'Napoleon' 'Pink Soupert' 'Souvenir de la Malmaison' We still haven't had more than a few light freezes, and all the potted roses are still out in the yard. I just think about how my rainbarrel is being topped off, the plants are getting some free nitrogen-enriched water, the ground is being loaded with lots of thermal mass to keep my plants safe and all is good. Granted, I understand that all you have is a courtyard and I am not sure what all that really entails, but my points might not be shared, so for that I empathize. It is days like this when I am happy I spent time in Michigan, temperature aside, I will happily take this over shoveling slush and ice the plows threw back onto my driveway after I had shoveled the snow out! I swear, I loved shoveling snow, but that nasty, heavy stuff the plows threw back at me were literal pains in my back. Anyways, just think, it won't be long before the wildflowers on the roadsides are unseasonably early again thanks to all the rain and warm weather.

Daylilies and roses are lovely. Your garden is ALWAYS lovely. Fat cat Nemo makes me smile as he rests up from all his garden patrol chores. Glad your getting the reblooms on VEINS OF TRUTH. Rebloom is always great!

Veins of truth look really good, love Cousin suzanne. I wonder if Fat Cat Nemo knew you were going to post that rather unflattering view of him, hee hee! From his ears, I think he suspected something :)

I like how you arranged all the blossoms in the bowl! Your angels and fairies are beautiful :)
I love fall, although it is a little sad with not many new flowers to look forward to.
That's when I grab a cup of Chai and a notebook and obsess over seed plans and what might come up next year :)

Such lovely gardens, Celeste! I love the beautiful variety of plants, colors and forms.

A few years ago my best friend from childhood was living in an unimproved barn in NH with her eight collies and I finally convinced her to come down here to western NC where she/they could live in a house. Her descriptions and photos of the winters up there are a bit hair-raising, although I remember plenty of snow and cold from when I lived near Boston as a kid. Anyway, my friend was in the lake district area, near the border with Maine, and at one time worked in Milton. She also lived in Farmington. I told her you were on the daylily forum, and she asked where you are located, so thought I'd inquire. Also, what's your elevation? That seems to make a lot of difference in the temps, doesn't it?

I like your garden ornaments, Celeste, but I love your roses! I have noticed mine are responding to a little cooler weather.

That is a beautiful dayliliy (Cousin Suzanne) and I love the fact that it is fragrant.

Oh my gosh Celeste that pink rose is gorgeous! Luv it!! The tree face cracked me up and fat cat Nemo laying out all fat and sassy!! It all looks gorgeous Celeste and I too am dreading a cold winter even though I love the cooler temps we have had lately. Judy

everything is gorgeous, cELESTE and I love COusin Suzanne,I just love all you ststues,They are so pretty, and the pot people is very pretty.I really like them. Fat caat nemo, needs some exercide on a treadmill. so where is a picture od zeus? I love to see pictures of him, hes so pretty with that gorgeous fur he has, and his little extra toes.

Send some of that cool weather this way I'll take some it's still in the 90's here in FL. Celeste your garden is beautiful love your roses and daylilies. Little Boy says way to go Fat Cat Nemo you deserve to take it easy after working so hard this year.

Beautiful Roses!!! Beautiful daylilies in the wine glasses. I haven't thought about putting the blooms inside. I'll have to give this a try next summer. I do envy your ability to grow the big roses. Mine just get so darned much black spot that I gave up on them. I can grow a few older climbing roses but nothing like yours. Thanks for sharing your beauties!!! Oh yes, I love a cat with "THE" attitude and I guess by looking that yours is full of it! You are truly blessed. Mona
