Has dark green fuzzy leaves. The leaves have no odor when rubbed.

The person I got it from thinks it may be some sort of Queens plant?

I really liked it and want to get the large cutting to root.

Has anyone had success? Water or rooting hormone and soil?

Is that what they call Lambs Ear??? Gotta go look it up...it's familiar but I can't be sure.

Yes, it's an antirrhinum. As kids we would pinch each side of the flower to get the 'bunny' to open its mouth.

Looks like a catmint to me :0) I've not had mine spread rambunctiously but the plant itself does tend to sprawl outward - easily remedied by whacking back with the added bonus of whacking being another round of bloom. Of course it increases in size each year, but again very easily remedied by dividing - after which it doesn't miss a beat so go ahead and whack and divide all you want, this plant couldn't care less. I get a whiff of something when I disturb the foliage - not minty to my nose, though. Whatever it is, I don't particularly care for it but it's not off-putting per se.

Yes, it's Vinca minor (the common Periwinkle), also called Creeping Myrtle. I have two forms: the variegated Vinca minor, 'Ralph Shugert' and the dark green leafed and deep blue flowering Vinca minor,'Bowles'. The variegated Ralph Shugert is very pretty. The leaves have creamy edges with reddish-purple flowers and really lights up dark, shadey areas. It is the kind most often added to flower baskets and window boxes for its trailing habit. The Bowles has larger leaves that are dark green. It clumps more and doesn't run amuk as much as the other varieties and stands up taller than the others too. Its flowers are deep blue or blue-violet. Don't be afraid to cut it back to the ground ocassionally. I give mine a "hair cut" with the weedeater at least twice a year. It comes back bushier and thicker and blooms better. Otherwise it gets too viney and is a tangled mass and then starts dropping its leaves & going bald. Very unsightly. A good haircut and you get many new flowers and handsome plants. I love mine. It is especially nice under conifers and other evergreen trees and trees where grass tends to not grow. It is great on slopes to prevent erosion and where you don't like to mow grass. I planted it all over the steep bank in front of my house outside the fence and down the bank to the road. It has filled in so wonderfully and I no longer have to mow it or weed it. It is very dramatic and elegant. I cut it back once or twice a year and that's it! The original variety was brought to America from Southern Europe by immigrants where it has since become wild. It can be invasive in moist areas. ~ Annie

today and I saw this plant! Cannot believe it...it said "patio Hawaiian,needs moist soil and shade"....what is that???!!! The leaves definitely have a tropical look to them. btw, the price for one was $24.99(on sale), about 4 feet tall...I didn't get it, because wanted to get more info on it.

I'm pretty sure this is a tibouchina. There are several varieties, and they make lovely small trees. I've never tried rooting them, Tony, so can't give you any help with that! Good luck!

These are very easy to root in soil. I stuck a pruned branch into a pot for my clematis to climb & one day I noticed it had new sprouts. That is how easy it is. Hibiscus does the same. If I stick a pruned branch in the ground to mark where I plant seed it will root.

It is a Tibouchina Grandifolia and I posted a picture of one in bloom on this forum August 6 ("Bless My Bloomer").
It roots very easily and grows fast if it gets enough water and acid fertilizer.

What kind of light situation does this plant need? Full sun? Shade? .. I've got one in a pot but not sure where to plant it.

Brenda - Full sun, good organic soil, moderate water until established, and it must be in an acidic soil for best results. Terminal height is 6' to 8'.

There are other types of tibouchina that I don't think are quite as demanding, perhaps? At least mine wasn't, until I killed it by moving it in hot weather. Here's a photo of the one I had, peeking out from behind my rudbeckia triloba, though I don't know which one it is. It was really pretty. Bloomed well for me in a large container for a long time before going into the ground. Then it bloomed well there, until the fatal shovel came along! I don't suppose anyone can tell which one it was from this poor photo?
