yes, I've seen ONE Zebra long wing this year. Which is more than I saw last year. As for white peacocks - only at the zoo! ;o)

Sis, I have seen a few zebra longwings. I just saw one yesterday. I have not noticed any white peacocks. Seems I've had more butterflies and dragonflies this year than ever before, though. More of a variety, too.

I saw my first ZLWing about a month ago and we moved here 2 years ago. It zoomed through, didn't stop.

Last year I had some peacocks but not this year so far but there is a new one (for me) and that is Cabbage White. Been seeing them in my yard and all over.

And of course the old friends: giant swallowtails, gulf frits, monarchs, sulfurs and the occasional palamedes swallowtail.

I saw only one zebra a month or so ago, but nothing since. And no peacocks yet this year. Aren't the peacocks one that like the mud? Maybe that's why they are so scarce this year. I've seen plenty of the others though.

I've not seen a single ZLW yet this year here in Apopka and they were my most abundant butterfly in the garden. I raised more of them than any other last year. My P. suberosa is just begging to be nibbled on. The Zebras seemed to like that over the P. incarnata for me.

As for Peacocks, I usually will see a couple come zipping thru the garden but they have as yet to deposit any eggs on my Bacopa.

Thanks everyone! I was hoping that I hadn't inadvertently denied them their favorite plants, but now it seems from what you are all saying that they are just not here this year! Here's hoping they make a big comeback!

But I HAVE seen gazillions of peacocks @ the lake next to our rec center - they're very happy there, seemingly = )

I see zebras daily feeding at my hamelia paten shrub. Also have sulfurs, a swallowtail or two, gulf fritillaries, those little blue butterflies, skippers, and dragonflies.

I haven't seen one yet and usually I'm seeing many by this time. It looks like there are some down south and they should be migrating up our way soon. Hopefully.

All of the others are here now, but most were a bit late this year. The Tigers and Giant Swallowtails being the exceptions. I've never seen more tigers. I'm thinking all of this is because of the very cold winter and the wet spring.

I've had a lot of them all summer. They swarm my firebush and I have cats on my maypop. My 4 year old is thrilled :) Christy

Spoke with the folks over at Biosphere Nursery yesterday in Winter Garden, they said the cold had affected both ZLW and monarch populations. They said the ZLW's are late this year. Last year the ZLW's literally ate my passionvine to death. I bought a new one...no ZLW's :( maybe I'll see some later this summer?

Still no ZLW's here but my garden is alive with Monarchs, all types of Swallowtails, Skippers, Gulf Frits and Sulphurs! The Monarchs seem to be larger this year too unless my memory is deceiving me!

I saw one yesterday and two today, so they have finally arrived in Central Florida. All of the other big butterflies are here with the exception of the Zebra Swallowtails which I almost never see in my yard in spite of the fact that I have many Pawpaws.

Lots of butterflies now. I had four Giant Swallowtails at one time today flittering around. A great day for butterflies. It should keep getting better until late October.

From what I hear, people in South Florida are having them. I was given a few eggs to raise and did release 5 healthy butterflies but they immediately left even though I do have several types of passionvines that they like.

On the other hand... my Pipevine is gone! The Polydamas have totally decimated my vine. I must have hundreds of cats, many big ones all searching for food and a place to pupate. The poor small ones are out of luck. And this is from a huge amount of fresh tender vine that came back after the hard winter.

The same thing is true for the Eastern Blacks. They were late arriving but ate all my parsley, dill, fennel and even now my Rue is gone. Must have about 20 in chrysalis and there are more on the Rue that will not have enough to eat. I even sent some to Tom in Clermont. Thanks, Tom.

Monarchs seem to be more numerous this year than in the past few years. They are on their own. I do have milkweed left - at least right now.

Have raised a dozen or so Spicebush but haven't found any eggs recently. Still have some in chrysalis though.

Same is true for Giants - a number in chrysalis stage now.

Sulphur cats on the Candlestick now but the birds - Cardinals and Parulas are picking them off. I am afraid the Polys will meet the same fate - they are so out in the open now with no vine left.

Gulf Frits were big in numbers a few weeks ago. Seeing fewer cats now - but butterflies are still here.

Saw a beautiful male Pipevine this morning. Mommas are out of luck since they won't have vine.

Only seen one Peacock all season and one Buckeye. A friend though has had numerous Buckeyes on some of her snapdragons.

I have Polydamas, but still have a lot of vines left. I have predatory wasps that get them---can't seem to kill the wasps, in spite of the fact that I hunt their nests every week and kill lots.

The same happens to my Eastern blacks. They get started on my dill, but the wasps get most of them and then I think the cardinals get most of the rest.

I'm seeing Pipevines most days, but they zoom in and then they leave. They are difficult to spot. I have quite a few Spicebush, but I can't find any on my Spicebush (Lindera benzoin). I'm not sure what they are using, maybe my black cherry tree, the bay trees? I know the Palemedes use the bay trees. I see some of them around also.

It's a good time of the year for butterflies. I'm really enjoying the short time I can get outside. The heat is a killer.
