Yes you can. Works fine. In fact some models of that canner are sold with it.

I thought that was probably the case, but when I called Presto to ask the service gal told me that although people do it, Presto definitely recommend against it. She said I should stick with what came with the canner. It seems that many of you on this forum use it successfully, though.

Linda Lou checked with Dr. Andress at the NCHFP to verify that it is OK for canners to use the three-piece weight and she said yes. There's no reason not to use it on any Presto it fits.

For some reason Presto call-line employees have not been very helpful in this matter. I'm not sure why. My old Presto offered it in the manual as an accessory and I have been using it since the late 70's.

The All-American is set up exactly this way but they include the 5-10-15 weight with the canner.

Yeah it seems that Presto is the worst source of info about their own products. Really doesn't make sense at all.

Presto even had me call them and they told me what part number the set was ! It all depends upon who you talk to at Presto.
I figure if Elizabeth Andress said it was fine then I am doing it.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the prompt responses. I've a regulator coming via Amazon tomorrow. Correction of a previous statement: my canner is actually a 23 qt and not the 16 qt - not that it matters.

Hi. I just saw this post and need more info. I have an 8 year old 22 qt. presto canner. I haven't used it in years since the dial gauge went bad. I threw the dial gauge away. Do I need to order a new dial gauge in addition to part 50332? I'm not sure where the weighted gauge is supposed to go.

Yes you would if only to have something in that hole. The weights go on the steam exhaust vent where your 15 lb. counter weight sits now. Just Google a picture of a Presto canner to see it easily.
