sonicstef, I know you've made up your mind but you seem to keep collecting votes so let me add mine to back your opinion to keep it. Not only does it not bother you too terribly much right now BUT if you were to try to change it, I think you or your installers are very likely to do some damage. Those are GORGEOUS (or should I be saying, "GORGES"?) cabinets and I will say that you or your installer would have to be shot for rendering any harm to them. Sorry for having to say this, but it's true. There are naysayers telling you to have your installer undo this - well, I just don't believe anyone walks around looking at ceiling lines. And if they walk into your home with your beautiful cabinets and their attention is trapped at the ceiling line instead of those amazing cabinets, well, they're nuts! :-) So, you have our permission to go on and enjoy this. I looks lovely. Besides, as Kompy said, you have your own style now!

I say let it go. At least you have a daughter, SIL and grandkids that will let you in their lives My son has been estranged from us for about 3 years and I would give anything to have him in my life again. We are not alone if you read many of the other posts on this forum. There are multiple families out there who were wonderful parents, who have adult children that have alienated/disowned/estranged themselves for unknown reasons. This may sound strange since you have a relationship with your daughter and her family. Believe me just 3 years ago, I would have looked at people like they were crazy if they said that there was evem a possibility that my komd, lovimg adult son would never speak to jos family again and never even bother to tell us why. I still find it hard to believe that I am not allowed any access---phone, email, address, cell----no birthday cards, mother's/father's day cards, no phone calls, no visits, no letters or any type of contact---just silence. Almost over night without explanation, our previously generous, caring son become a spineless, selfish person we believe because he was given an ultimatum from a very stong minded, controlling girlfriend. I say your daughter is an adult and it is not a parent's or other adult's responsibility to solicit advice that is not welcome or requested/ Adult children have to learn their own lessons and no not have the same values or perceptions as we do. I apologize if this sounds harsh and I do not mean it to sound that way. I am just learning through reading these forums that life is just too short and material things are not whtat's important. Having a realtionship with your family is what is important and any little thing that might jeopardise that is simply not worth it. I don't even know why my son hasn't spoken to his family for the past 3 years, but would just hate to think it could have been something as simple as commenting on his dirty carpet. My thought, after 3 years of pain and depression and unkowing, is to look at what really matters and ignore what doesn't. I would rather have a realtionship with a child with dirty carpets than no relationship at all. Just my opinion and something to think about as I now know that our children do not always perceive our seemingly harmless words/actions the same way we parent do.

I was in the same boat, and I decided to let it go! I did the shinier finish in our powder room in a SW dark red, and I immediately knew I should have gone more matte. Especially with the powder room lighting, it's too shiny. When I was picking the finish I did have in the back of my head that the good quality mattes these days would wear fine, especially in a powder room, but I just went with old rule of thumb anyway. I have three kids so I'm always thinking of "cleanability". Having said that, I think you should save the money and leave it as is. You have a good quality paint in there that you paid good money to get on the walls, so just chalk it up as a "maybe next time" lesson! :)

Good for you; you are doing exactly the right thing. It's not as if she simply changed her mind about the type of dress, or decided to have a destination wedding instead, or something. You are being a good friend. I'm sorry it's a wasted expense for you, though. Maybe it that's owill help you to feel better to consider that you aren't out any more than you would have been had the wedding taken place: you'd still be out the money for a dress and shoes you might not be able to wear again, having worn them only once for a few hours (and then if you sold them, you couldn't write "brand new; never worn," which you can now if it comes to that). In fact, you probably would have been out MORE money, for a wedding gift and perhaps a shower and shower gift, salon costs, travel expenses, and who knows what all else. It is usually costly and inconvenient to be in a wedding party; we suck it up as a nice thing to do for a friend. And that's what you are doing!
