Great pictures Cindy, thanks for sharing! I'm amazed at the number of off scape entires you had. We usually have only around 6 or so, if any. And some of your scapes show bloom for some time. We hardly ever enter a scape past the first or 2nd blooms. The scaped flowers do look great though. Where are you at in your season?

Among the close-ups of daylilies there isn't a single one I don't like. What beauties!! I'd love to go on a show too.
Of course all the display flowers look great. I think I can make out the names Wren's Song and Born To Run (looks good) in the last table pic.

Hey, you must have had a grand time seeing all those lovely blooms. Glad you posted them. I have Fabulous Frieda and I do love it as it is just so pretty. Also love that Mister Homer, what a great color.

Thanks all, it was wonderful to see all the blooms. I'm in northeast ohio, Ed, and we are perhaps at the beginning of the late part of the season, at least a few good weeks past peak. Which explains why you are seeing previous bloom on the scapes. I really did like seeing the blooms off scape. We also saw several blooms in vases by the parking garage that had not cooperated for the show,
( they were only partially open ).
Rita, Mister Homer won a ribbon in the extra large division, which was 7 inches or more in diameter. The blooms were massive.

That looks like so much fun -- I'm jealous! Mister Homer looks right up my alley, but what I really need is a map showing what each of the flowers in vases and cups are, kind of like a "map to the stars." Thanks for sharing.

Hi Bambi too, No, I will be in Pitsburgh that day visiting my son. It would have been fun!! I am not a member of NODS,but Curt did tell us about the picnic. just seems like everything is a bit of a drive for me. Hey gang, now I wish I would have enlarged that picture of the table too!! I will work on that and see what I can do. Julia, On SP Devil's Eye, it does have some purple in it, what I am seeing on my screen is accurate as to what it was in person.

Thanks for posting the pictures of the show. There are some in the cups I'd sure like to know the names of. But they are all pretty. It looks like they had many contributors so that they had alot of variety. I really like the cup idea too. That way the small growers wouldn't have to cut off a perfectly good scape to show just one bloom....Maryl

Fabulous Freida, Orchid Electra and Mandarin Seas were my favorites. I've never been to a daylily show - thanks for showing me what one looked like! Just curious - is it a rule that they must use green bottles to display scapes or is it just because they look good?

Our local club uses clear vases. I do like the way the bottles look, but someone had to drink an awful lot of wine to make that happen!

I like the way the blooms are in the cups. Our club makes you enter the whole scape - what a waste of a good scape! Very few newer daylilies or fancy daylilies are every shown. No one wants to part with a whole scape. I know I don't.

For the past few years, our club's show has been held in the ballroom at Longwood Gardens -- quite a site for a show! We do both on and off scape, and we have many of both types of entries -- oldies and some of the newest things. I always come home with a long, long list of must-haves. Although many are new plants, lots of those are oldies. I don't play favorites! This year, for example, I liked JOLLY POLY, a new one of Don Herr's (and exhibited by him), and I also was really taken with ZELLA VIRGINIA -- and I liked a whole bunch more.

They do a show every other year at the Toledo Botanical Gardens. On the off years it's hosta's. The biggest entertainment is getting up early in the morning to run out and pick blooms and then find a way to carry them to the show without damage, while remembering the names of everything you brought. Most of the blooms are off scape, and then they have a contest to see how you can make creative flower arrangements. ie last year I took some metal baskets that looked kind of like chicken wire, filled them with spanish moss and test tubes (which held water, but were hidden by the moss) and filled them with smaller blooms. But it's such a good way to show people that daylilies are SO much more than Stella. We've even converted some hosta people. :)
