Last August I discovered ground bees at the back of my property. My first instinct was to get rid of them because of potential for the kids getting stung. So, I went to the internet to find out how to get rid of them and found many ideas including flooding them out. Interestingly enough, I also found an article that explained what value the bees had (including controlling the secada population) and that they typically are not aggressive. So I decided to leave them alone and observe. As I worked around the area they had inhabited I found they could have cared less about me. They are only around for two months so by October they were gone. As I intend to plant that area with natives this is a perfect environment for them to live in. Can't wait till I see them again this year. We all need to be open to changing our preconceived notions about the wide life around us. Ha, thank goodness for the internet.
