Comments (7)Thanks everybody, number two to bloom should be Tribal Council, but we have had a spell of cloudy cool weather and it seems to be holding the bloom season back. Maryl, I have a number of "old trumpet shaped" daylilies and I love them, particularly since most are yellow and fragrant. David, Siloam Art Work going to be in full sun, so when it gets hotter here, we will keep a close eye on it, move it if necessary--thanks for the heads up. Debra and everybody else, it's really exciting to see the first scapes. We have lots and lots now, the leader of the unbloomed ones are Stella's Ruffled Fingers with 13 at this time. Who knows what I will find in the next day or two, it's so fun....See MoreBest Patterned Daylilies of the 2018 Season
Comments (26)All the patterned daylilies posted are amazing. I especially like Bow Tie Affair and Stenciled Infusion. Karen, your seedlings are lovely. I hope they have good plants under those beautiful flowers. Here are my best patterns. Geometric Wizard continues to be one of my favorites. It does very well here for a southern-bred daylily. Curious Cutie is from the same hybridizer and I have often wondered if they share genetics. Its biggest fault is that it turns to mush in rain, but Geometric Wizard does not. I Don't Kid is doing well here. The third flower in the background is Purple Maze which is very similar in looks. I love the delicate coloring on Ink and Pink. Four Beasts in One is not well established yet, but I like the looks of it. Oceans Eleven has been in the garden for many years. I love the eye. It often has a metallic look. Here is Get Jiggy in our garden. This is the best pattern we have seen, but we haven't seen it often. Of course, if patterns really show best in cooler weather, we aren't going to see many in west central Indiana. I know I have gone over my limit, but I have to post a pattern we found in a seedling. I didn't expect it as neither parent has a pattern. Nancy...See MoreResilient daylilies this past season
Comments (9)Sherry, I will be praying for a successful and safe surgery and speedy recovery for you. Let us know how you are doing. Our season was not stellar--too hot and too little rain. The early season was actually worse than the later season. Still, I found several that performed well. Some of these were newly planted and some have been in place for a while. Vision Seeker was planted in 2021 and seems to be doing well. I like the big bold flowers. Thunderbird Dancer was planted just this spring (early) and just kept on growing. Swingin' Miss was planted in 2021 and gave us many of the cutest little flowers this seaon. Those lavender tags are hybridizing tags--sort of ruins the picture, doesn't it. I am really liking this little flower--Siloam Shocker. Phill Warbass has the Rose F. Kennedy look but is much taller. It actually is an offspring of Emerald Starburst. I bought Mardi Gras Indian for Bob and he loves it. It's the most intense, brightest color in the garden. It looks like a good grower and is increasing well. I have been enjoying some Bret Clement intros like this one, It Stops at Garage Sales. It has tall scapes and lots of large flowers. Impassioned continues to impress me. It blooms late registered as mid-late but usually blooms late here) and has nice tall scapes. (My pictures of it always have the gator in them.) You might expect the last one to be a good grower because it is a Stout winner. We haven't found all Stout winners to be good performers for us so it's nice when one lives up to the hype. This is Heavenly United We Stand. My only disappointment this season is I couldn't get it to set seed. That's all for me. Nancy...See Morenat4b
