reducing -resizing recipies

Hello, So this year Im making pickels, and cucumber relish from my garden. I really like icicle pickels so most are being used for this, and the larger opps I missed that cuc are going into the relish. But I would also like to try my hand at gerhkins, and dill but DO not want to make a huge amount as it is just me to eat the pickles. So I need to reduce the recipe. If a recipe say's it makes 7-8 pints can I divide the ingredient amounts by 7-8 to just make around one pint. I know in baking you shouldn't reduce some ingredients. Are there any ingredients that should not be changed or need a different conversion for in pickeling. I plan to seal these pickles to store on a shelf. I did look on line but just got a bunch of computer programs that you can purchase to make recipies. I would appreciate any input on this. Thanks Frogged
