I've been wondering the same thing. They have it growing in the median here in Valrico also. I want to kill all the grass in the shallow ditch in the front of our property and grow this plant....if I can find it.

I haven't seen it, but Ornamental Peanut has become very popular and has a yellow pea-type flower.

It is a great groundcover . Loves full sun - not shade . Hardly ever needs water but does much better now with our rains than earlier during the drought . Very easy to make cuttings and sprig your planting area . I trim overgrown areas and just insert the cut pieces directly into the bare soil . You can mow right over this stuff if you use the highest possible setting on your mower . This is also the best form of weed control except for hand pulling . The ornamental peanut should do very well for you long term .

Do you think that this would be an option for groundcover in a bed wih butterfly bushes and gardenias? Im tired of weeding and its soo pretty Im thnking it would be a nice contrast...

If I hadnt finally got my yard in shade I would have planted it instead of getting the grass growing..lol

I have to say that I tried ornamental peanut and was very disappointed in it. When it looks good, it's great, but when it dies back, it is just weedy and unattractive. At least, that's how it worked for me. Comes out again pretty each year and blooms nicely, then goes to heck in a handbasket. Maybe in an area that doesn't need to look beautiful all the time? Or maybe others haven't had that problem.

I agree with Marcia. When perennial peanut looks good it's so cute- but it looks ratty through a good portion of the year. Or maybe Marcia and I both just had bad luck here in Sanford!

Dune sunflower is another groundcover full of yellow flowers that blooms almost year round. Just a thought. :-)
