Late bloomers section and the new Iris Bed all planted

I know I have posted about the newly created (out of what was veggie garden) this spring new gardenbeds put in of mainly daylilies and tall bearded Iris. I have finially gotten that iris bed all planted. What with the late blooming daylilies all around it, it does just look fabulous up there. My plants arew to still add bulbs, lilies and spring bulbs of tulips, daffildils and dutch iris. Then the one part I just got some plants in is going to be annuals for summerlong color. Just got a late start there. But I am very happy with this entire section.

Plus it blends in and works so well with the parts that were already there.

It's wonderful to see that many lates blooming! I only have one late blooming now. Those irises will be beautiful in the spring.

I just kept adding blueberry shrubs that I mostly bought mail order for years until I had enough. Now the birds have plenty to feast on (and they do) plus I have plenty to eat myself. I do have a tendency to name my gardenbeds if a name sticks in my mind. Like Olallieland, Florabundaville and so on. This garden pictured above really was very thought out before anything was planted. In the very front you might be able to see some of the row of Portulacas. Along there I plan to plant Tulips this fall (already ordered). Daffodils will go in the two paths in between those front daylilies and along in back of the iris and in front of those late bloomers. Then I really want DUTCH IRIS. I hope they will be winter hardy for me but we will see. This fall I am going to put them up there in front of that to be annuals section. I want a sucession of color up there.

I can see this year just with the small amount of bloom there first year that this iris bed will be just stunning given time. The entire middle backyard that I made last year out of what used to be my veggie garden has just turned out so well. I have all those daylily sections, some with new ones and the late bloomers section that I moved over to the back. Then I just added lilies this spring. And I had spring bulbs in there and intend to add more this fall. The Dutch Iris section has lots of bloom stalks so should be lovely. The entire thing has turned out well even if I was complaining this spring that the iris section wasn't growing. It is doing better than I first thought and the Dutch Iris in there do add lots of color.

Cypress vine has pretty finely cut foliage and grows fast enough to look nice on a trellis. Time is important to morning glories because they close up and also the way they face makes a difference. Some of them don't bloom until late. Heavenly Blue is late blooming for me but Grand Pa Otts and another dark blue that I like better bloom early enough. Zinnias come in all colors and you might order some that go with your colors. Plants in big pots are nice because it is impossible to predict if the plant will look good on a certain date. Pots can be moved and anything ratty can be moved out of sight. Ornamental grasses can look graceful and lush and are more likely to still look good after our brutal summers. Cosmos are easy to grow; I don't remember when they look their best and when they decline. You can get some that are white or go with the pinks that you see usually.

The TB iris crazies started for me because I wanted lots of blooms before the daylilies started. Those really early blooming daylilies were just mostly too plain to get excited about. So I tried iris and really got hooked on them :-))

Don't blame you for being hooked on the Iris....I am too! What you have accomplished here is MUCH ADMIRED on my part and like Ellie, wish I had your energy! Projects moves slowly around here....LOL!
You definitely have a slice of heaven in your gardens Rita! Those late bloomers are looking bright and cheery!

Those late bloomers are gorgeous, and I know the iris will be in the spring. Everything is looking wonderful, and all your hard work is paying off in spades!

Kay- (Or anyone else interested in iris) go look on the iris forum to see all I have been up to with the TB iris. I went overboard this summer and have ordered TB iris from 5 sources. I was planting iris yesterday and today.

LOL Rita. I have 5 or maybe it is 6 buckets of divided TB Iris to be replanted. Those plants multiply way too fast.

Rita, When are you going to rest.You just keep on digging and planting. but,Its fun, ain't it to plant flowers all over the place.Your beds are looking really nice, too and the late bloomers are so pretty..I like that great big SUNFLOWER you have back there, too.I love Sunflowers.So do the squirrels around here.They usually have them ate up before the seeds get mature..
