This is one of the truisms of the differences between men and women, and it will never change. When you can grow a roast beef or a sirloin steak in the garden, he will eat it.

Good luck. My manly man loves vegetables except for broccoli. I'm the one that loves steak (with lots of veggies too).

Have you made Sylvia's zucchini bread? Yum. He'd love it if he didn't know the secret ingredient.

There are certain vegetables that, by definition, are not manly and should not be eaten by us men. For example, okra and beets will never pass my lips. Also, many of us have prior military experience and can attest to the fact that there is nothing that tastes worse than lima beans out of a package of C rations.

I will, however, eat tomatoes if they are uncooked as part of a salad that precedes a main course of steak and.....potatoes.

You guys are funny! But, I assure you, if you come over for dinner to my house, you will be changed for ever!

Just ask my neighbors, the manly man. Of course, I will throw in some meat too, so you are not scared of my cooking.:o)

Funny, because it has had the opposite effect for me. I eat everything personally and my wife is a finicky eater. But she will happily eat the tomatoes I grow, Okra and so forth. I am happy, I grow it for all of us. Who knows, maybe she hates tomatoes but eats them because I brought it to her from our garden. :)

Either way, she will eat stuff from our garden that she would not eat from the grocery store. Guess she figures it is organic and better to eat then not to.

Give the extra away to a local food kitchen if you can. You've been married long enough (since the kids are grown and gone) to know that he isn't going to eat them. LOL

Oh, and I use the sneaky chef recipes for my son and they taste really great!

I started out hiding them fully cooked in pastas (veggie lasagna - alfredo sauce with lots of extra cheese), rice (pork fried) and stews (Brunswick stew with beef, pork and chicken was a great way to hide C-rat lima beans and multiple other veggies).

We've progressed to lots of fresh, crisp veggies that he prefers to the hidden mooshy ones. It only took 8 years!

Bunny, cook all your veggies to a mush, call it gravy and serve it over pot roast. Do you grow potatoes? You can't eat meat without potatoes.

Have you tried raising chickens?

Cook it alot and mash it with potatoes to serve. Add some Italian grated cheese to explain the difference in taste. :o) That's how I got my kids and grandkids to eat veggies, Italian grated cheese on everything. :o)

And soup, I put everything in soup. You could also puree the soup and he wouldn't know what's in it, then just ask him to please taste it. Call it cream of chicken.

Every night make a beatiful plate of veggies for yourself and a plate for him with just a piece of chicken or beef on it. Maybe in time he'll get more adventurous (and bored) and want to try some of the veggies. And if he doesn't, he doesn't.

Being experimental with the food doesn't mean you have to cook a lot of it. You can do single servings - or enough for 2 meals.

Speaking of hiding foods, I hid foods in words.

She had such an aversion to chili from some point in her life that she would not touch it for anything. One night, I made chili, and called it beans and rice! LOL! She ate it, I told her afterwords it was chili. Who knows what horrible thing happend to her as a child where chili was involved!?!

One of the major reasons some men have an infallible ability to know directions to anyplace from anywhere is a steady diet of no okra or beets. Over the years I have honed my "internal GPS" to the point that if you blindfolded me, drove me a 1,000 miles away and set me loose I would know just where I am.

Just kidding of course. Without my wife I would be helpless. If you want to get a man to eat vegetables start with fried white corn. There is no steak on the hoof that tastes better.

My hubby likes veggies just fine! I add them to turkey burgers, pasta dishes, stews, pot pies, meatloaf, etc. We eat them as side dishes at least twice a day. I like tomatoes with my eggs in the AM too.

He likes ice cream, chocolate, chips, meat, cheeses, eggs, and breads.

He works out every day, and has muscles galore. At a recent Dr visit, his Cholestrol was a little high. So, no more eggs, no more red meat, lots and lots of veggies and fruits.
He is determined not to take medication.

It is normal for us to have two veggies with dinner. But with the added fruits/veggies, a noticable side affect has occurred.

Man, we are already tired of the output from eating so much fresh fiber! Gross, but true, when you eat a lot of fresh veggies/fruits, you poop like a gorilla!

Shows how the typical refined/processed food diets have changed our digestive habits(G). Eating the high protein, low carb diets, mean fewer potty breaks.

Now when hubby walks rapidly to his "library" with the newspaper, I don't get in his way!!

Who does the cooking, you or your husband? If you do the cooking, then cook some things you like and some things he likes. If he doesn't want to eat them, then too bad. Let him fix a PBJ. I come from the old school where we were poor and we ate a lot of fresh veggies which were cheap or home grown. If he gets hungry enough he will eat whatever is cooked and will soon learn to like it. We raised two kids and two grandkids who eat veggies and love them. Too many people cook veggies such as tasteless boiled yellow squash, boxed plain mashed potatoes. Yuck. Try frying breaded yellow squash with onions. Fried green tomatoes in panko breadcrumbs. Squash croquettes. Serve white rice with milk and browned flour gravy made from the fat of fried pork chops. Mashed or creamed potatoes with the au jus gravy made from a pot roast (floured and browned) cooked with onions, celery and carrots. Green beans seasoned with salt pork or ham hocks. If he has good veggies he will eat them. Go to Foodnetwork and look for Paula Deen veggie recipes. She cooks good, Southern style veggies. If you notice, many of them use a meat of some kind in the cooking process. When I was up North, I got so tired of tasteless boiled veggies. You have to make them taste good.

I agree about the 'don't kill yourself cooking' thing - you can make stuff that naturally lends itself to lotsa veggie input - like soups, stews, casseroles, salads. But if he's THAT fussy, & can't - or won't - cook for himself, I'd do the meat separately, as suggested & cook everything else to my own tastes.

Or throw some dinner parties?

& if you have too much bounty & want to share, I'm sure you can hook up w/ a local food pantry/soup kitchen - goodness knows there are more needy folks these days & those places are often stretched thin.
