She didnt eat her grain 2 days this week now.Weve had horses 16 years now never had one not eat.

Found this at a vet forum-

Question: I have a 5 yr. old mare, in foal for 2003. She just doesn't seem to want to eat. She seldom clean her oats up. She is also on Buckeye Show n Win Supplement, the hay is alfafa, orchard grass. Her hair coat looks like a wormy horse. She has been wormed with Quest and strongid, already this year. There's salt and mineral free choice. What else do you recommend?

Answer: It is concerning when a pregnant mare does not eat well. Pregnancy is a huge stress for mares, especially the first pregnancy. Hormonal changes and radical increases in nutrient requirements can present a great stress to pregnant mare. I have seen pregnant mares with digestive upsets and stomach ulcers. A poor appetite and scruffy hair coat can be a common sign of any digestive upset in horses including stomach ulcers. I would have your veterinarian come out and do a complete physical examination and blood work on the horse to determine if something other than stomach ulcers could be the problem. I would also recommend that the horse's stomach be endoscoped to determine if gastric ulcers are present. Unfortunately, the antiulcer drugs used in horses, especially the FDA approved GastroGard, is not approved for use in pregnant mares. However, if gastric ulcers can be confirmed I have used GastroGard as an extralabeled drug in pregnant mare with gastric uclers and have not see a problem, but again it is not approved. The other option is to try Maalox (1/2 ml per pound (1 pt), orally) 5 to 6 times daily and see if the mare's appetite increases. I would try to stay away from giving bute or banamine, as these drugs may exaserbate gastric ulcers in horses and have an adverse effect on the fetus. You could also try some of the feed supplements such as Nutrient Buffer, GUT, or NeighLox and see if the mare's appetite improves. Good luck with your pregnant mare!

Plants my cat *loves:* * Dracaena marginata. Maybe because it looks like pet grass? Got it because I thought it might be tall enough to be out of her reach, but she'll stand on the planter and nibble on it! * Peace lilies. She'll nibble on whole leaves! She's eaten so much of it in the 6 months or so that I've had it, it's now smaller than when I bought it :( Plants she hasn't touched yet: * Pachira Aquatica (I've had it for a few weeks/month now). I got a taller version (waist/stomach height), but some of its leaves are still low enough that she can reach, especially with her planter-standing method. However, so far I haven't seen any nibbles! Fingers crossed that she doesn't grow accustomed to its scent or something of the sort and becomes more curious! * Snake plant. I didn't realize this plant was toxic for cats, but thankfully it's always been housed in areas she can't frequent -- in a hard-to-reach spot of a kitchen counter/island (I had it surrounded by cookbooks and my coffee maker) or its current spot at the top of a bookshelf. They don't require loads of light, so it's easier to position these plants somewhere you can enjoy, but your cat can't. * Succulents. I've kept a couple in window sills year-round and she hasn't touched them. Although I don't recommend keeping succulents indoors unless you have super bright Southern sunlight or grow lights. I had an Echeveria Green Goddess that is etiolated slightly from my mostly Southern, slightly Eastern window. I think I'll stick with sedums/Graptopetalum Paraguayense (which I think still look attractive with their sliiiiight legginess) for indoors year-round.

Who does the cooking, you or your husband? If you do the cooking, then cook some things you like and some things he likes. If he doesn't want to eat them, then too bad. Let him fix a PBJ. I come from the old school where we were poor and we ate a lot of fresh veggies which were cheap or home grown. If he gets hungry enough he will eat whatever is cooked and will soon learn to like it. We raised two kids and two grandkids who eat veggies and love them. Too many people cook veggies such as tasteless boiled yellow squash, boxed plain mashed potatoes. Yuck. Try frying breaded yellow squash with onions. Fried green tomatoes in panko breadcrumbs. Squash croquettes. Serve white rice with milk and browned flour gravy made from the fat of fried pork chops. Mashed or creamed potatoes with the au jus gravy made from a pot roast (floured and browned) cooked with onions, celery and carrots. Green beans seasoned with salt pork or ham hocks. If he has good veggies he will eat them. Go to Foodnetwork and look for Paula Deen veggie recipes. She cooks good, Southern style veggies. If you notice, many of them use a meat of some kind in the cooking process. When I was up North, I got so tired of tasteless boiled veggies. You have to make them taste good.

Thanks, Glenda for showcasing something I can do quickly using a product from the freezer. My way of life although I promised myself to incorporate some of the KT recipes in my cooking. Anyone could have a great restaurant just using these recipes with proper credit given to the KTers. Raven, you astound me with the number of recipes you have and your product knowledge of everything due to your research.. When do you sleep? the puppy does not have signs of parvo, my puppy I Had a long time ago died of that and they have black diahreah until they are dead it takes only about 3 days for it to die. I think these people on here are so ignorant and full of hate. they did nothing to help you figure it out just cut you down. my 11 week old puppy got up sick today she throwed up four times today and wont eat or drink, I do know that puppies do throw up a lot so I am not to panicked yet. I wil see how she is in the morning. I understand your delimma about not having money to go to the vet if you dont have it you dont have it. You sure as hell cant get blood out of a stone right? These idiots on this page should not even bother commenting they have no knowledge of anything just insults is all they know.
