My dog will not eat or drink, throwing up bile. Help!
Comments (21)I have a somewhat similar story I have a tiny 8 week old Boston terrier he is only 3 pounds here is my story my little bit started having runny Poo. But no blood he would play as always this was Tuesday so I watched him for the rest of the day he would eat and go drink his water on his own. I woke ip wensday and got my baby in with the vet she took a sample of his Poo and came back to tell me it wasn't enough but that she thought it was parasites so I leave with a three day wormer and and a antibiotic So we come home and he still plays but is starting to sleep a lot so Thursday which is today I woke up and my little bit was just pretty much lying around he will get up and walk just a little bit and play with a toy for maybe a few seconds but today he will not eat or drink anything at all and when I say that I mean it I have tried everything so I called my vet back and told her that I thought he was a lot worse then he was he threw up 2 times today but not runny poo. No poo at all so I take him back in she gives him a shot for throwing up and says he is okay he just needs to rest I asked for a parvo test and she said to me why do one she couldn't treat him any different way then she is already. I'm in tears have been all day this little man is my life. I have been using a syringe to give him water and just a little bit of chicken soup I also uses syrup just a little tiny bit I put it in his mouth to maybe try and keep his blood sugar from dropping like I said he is only 3 pounds so tiny. He is sleeping right kow so I hope more then anything this little booger wakes me chewing on my face....See MoreCat Won't Drink Water(Will Eat though)
Comments (9)You really need to find a vet you're willing to work with. The other symptoms concern me and she needs more tests run. I think the pedialyte is just giving her a boost, yet she's slowly getting worse. Did the previous vet not comment on her lungs or did he even give her a thorough physical? Do you have a 'cat only' clinic in your area? If not, ask friends or call the SPCA for vet references. I know how frustrating some vets can be.....I went to one that never touched my cat and would point at her with a pen. Needless to say, I never went back to him! But, there are good ones out there........so keep searching....See MoreDog throwing up yellow bile
Comments (99)I have had to do a lot of research on dog food related illnesses lately because of problems my 3 year old lab had with gas and an upset stomach. From what I learned it sounds like your puppy could have developed a food intolerance to one of the ingredients in the food; probably a preservative or the meat type. If its having problems still, I would feed it boiled chicken and plain white rice for a couple of days in several small portions to give its tummy a rest and then switch its food to something that may be more gentle and offer a change of ingredients. I have always fed our girl high quality, grain free and locally sourced foods but she still ended up having some severe tummy problems. The vet put her on Royal Canine Gastritus along with medication which didn't fix the problem and caused her to start having problems with incontinence. It was because of her spay they said but after 3 vets and 1,000s in bills we still had a dog who was so miserable and getting sicker, not better. Knowing something wasn't right I spent countless hours researching her condition(s) and finally discovered the root of the problem was that the companies making the no grain foods often use beans in the ingredients as a protein source and the beans were causing severe gas. Additionally, she was eating too fast, needed smaller portions AND as hard as it is to believe, it was actually the ROYAL CANINE for Gastritus (that the vet put her on) that caused her to become incontinent. Yep, I read lots of complaints about lots of dogs who experienced the same problem! I immediately took her off that food and all the medications the vets had erroneously put her on. It took some more research but eventually I found a grain free food without beans called Holistic Select and literally within a week of starting her on the new food, ALL of her health issues diminished. I buy it from Chewy.com for a decent price and shipping included, it's grain free, locally sourced and made in the US. There are two or three grain free recipes, Imget her the Anchovy. Salmon, Sardine Adult/puppy kibble and she loves it. I just feel terrible because after months and months of misery all she needed was a change in food along with smaller portions fed in a bowl designed to make her eat slower, (a flower bowl, also bought on Chewy.com). If I only new then what I know now! It's been 2.5 months without one problem and is healthier and happier than she has ever been. Please, before jumping to the conclusion the your dog had some serious condition, check the label of the food you feed her to see what is actually in it and do some research to learn about food intolerance in dogs, its much more common than allergies, and vomiting is the first clue. dogfoodadvisor.com is a great place to start. Hey bestsyhac! long time no see, hope all is well!...See MoreLOOKING for: What to make for a husband who won't eat beans!
Comments (11)If you have recipes that you like that contain beans, try substituting green peas or chick peas for the beans - you could even prepare 2 1/2 batches and add beans to your portion. (How does he feel about lentils?) Get creative with grains! They are so easy. Cous cous, different rices, risotto - you can do a zillion one dish meals with them. You could add prepared meat (e.g.,cooked shrimp) to his portion before serving. Everything that you do with pasta you can do with grains. Lots of meat eaters love wild rice - it is really satisfying. I make the rice and while it is cooking saute thinly sliced celery and mushrooms in a little butter, mix with the cooked rice, pour in baking dish, bake at 350 for 15 minutes (or even longer) - yum! You can experiment on this theme with any grain - the little bit of baking seems to "marry" everything together. Veggie casseroles can be prepared in advance and frozen. I find that freezing in general helps my diet and wallet so that I don't eat unhealthy expensive food out all the time. Making a big batch of artichoke tomato pasta sauce is just as easy as a little one - just freeze in the little bags made for this purpose in the correct portions. Same for soups. Don't forget that old standby, the crock pot. You can make a very hearty stew with potatoes, onions, great bean-less chili for a different taste. Throw everything in the post before you go to work, turn on low or med, dinner is ready when you get home. Polenta pie is super quick and delicious: make your polenta in the pot, stir in any thing you want - diced red/orange/yellow peppers, garlic, jalapenos, a little cheese, any spices, anything not too watery or that wouldn't go with cornmeal. When it's cooked, pour into a greased glass pie pan, sprinkle top with cheese and bake for 15 minutes, until cheese melts. Cut like pie and serve with salad that you make while the polenta is baking. I agree that the prepared (frozen, etc.) vegetarian foods are just as junky as non-veg. Have you ever looked at the sodium contents? Got this off another website: Vegan "Meatloaf" 1 package of frozen TVP (Texturized Vegetable Protein- Ground beef imitation type such as "GimmeLean") 1 bell pepper, diced 1 medium onion (or according to taste) 1 egg OR equivelent in egg-replacer Approx. 1.5 cups of bread-crumbs (Add as you feel needed) A lot of ketchup (the more the better) Defrost TVP. Hand-mix all ingredients in a large bowl. Put in casserole dish, mold to dish. Add more ketchup to cover sides and top( like cake icing). Bake for 1 hour (or until the veggies are tender). Note: When served, it may fall apart, or crumble. This "meatloaf" is best with corn and mashed potatoes on the side! Personally, I love to cook and be creative with food - it really relaxes me. Perhaps since time is a factor, you can start to prepare meals together if you already don't. It's a nice way to be together after a day of work. (If your......See Morelaurief_gw
